Rocky
Object : Connect PC to TV so on occasion I can try PC gaming on the big screen etc. So my 8800 GTS has two DVI outs. One is connected as normal to my monitor. Today I connect the other DVI to the TV with a 10m DVI-HDMI cable. But the TV is reporting no signal. I went into Nvidia control panel and started a dual monitor wizard, but that's not what I really want to do, or is it lol. At least the wizard confirmed an LG telly was connected before I quit it. Pave Low
IIRC the 8800 series cards are HDCP compliant so it should work (not all graphics cards are) You might have to change the resolution of the PC initially as the TV is most likely using a different native resolution & refresh rate (HDTV) 720p - will typically need a resolution of 1368x768 or 1280x720. 1080p - will be 1920x1080. you'll need to check the TV's book as to what it uses (there is usually a paragraph on attaching things like an xbox/PS) also probably need to "set up" the port+channel on the TV Yeah, likely you will have to set it up as a second "monitor" on the PC (monitor primary and TV secondary) also one usually overlooked thing is that the DVI wont transmit sound, so the audio will still come from PC not the TV speakers unless you also connect audio cables from PC's sound card to TV
Pave Low
this might help <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOAuQj9CiZo?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOAuQj9CiZo?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOAuQj9CiZo?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> and this one, particularly at 0.55 where it briefly covers resolution and dual monitors <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9P3iulnN4Y?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9P3iulnN4Y?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9P3iulnN4Y?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Rocky
Thanks Pave, got it going easy enough. Instead of running the dual monitor wizard, I just opened the dual monitor settings and right there was a "clone" option, to use both displays the same. The resolutions for the LG were all grayed out though, not a problem as it seems to have auto selected the right one anyway, picture looks great, well worth the £7 for the cable. My problem now is my MX700 wireless mouse seems to have a range of about 1.5m. Do you get wireless KB/M that have living room range? Now to get me a new mouse LOL. Thanks CNET. MeanMF
My computer is in the basement and my monitor/kb/mouse/etc are two flights up in my office (quietest PC ever!). To get the kb/mouse/ipod/dvd burner/etc hooked up, I daisy-chained a few active USB extenders together and stuck a 7-port USB hub on the end. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030304&p_id=2779&seq=1&format=
