Rocky
I've a friends PC here that will not connect to the internet unless I boot it in safe mode. I've googled like mad and still no joy, anyone here experienced this? With a normal boot IE won't even load, or any browser, and the network toolbar icon shows no connection. Vista Home Premium OEM (no recovery disk) Tried so far Virus scan (removed 2 trojans) Diffferent browsers Checked running processes in safe mode versus running processes in normal boot, identified and cleared differences, still no joy. OneCare was installed, so I removed that as it is no longer supported and can cause issues. A normal boot means I can't do any admin stuff, the machine just freezes i.e. can't install anything, can't to anything much in the Control Panel etc. I'm thinking the virus has done damage that's not fixable. zeealice
laptop PC service pack 2 ? it may require a restore from the BIOS (last known good config) or maybe unplug the ethernet cable (or in the relevant case switch the wireless card off and on again) other than that chack the registry and diagnostics for any trace of the intenet's card in normal mode did it happen after update, a serious error etc? trojans wont usually cause permanent damage to a pc once they are gone out of the system the symptoms usually follow after. what trojan was it anyway? my dad used to say "unless a pc has been set on fire or chucked out of a window a PC is always fixable...." i miss thos lectures... MeanMF
Is the network card showing up in Device Manager? Also what does ipconfig /all show for that card?
ROCO*AFZ*
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections Right click the adapter, diagnose. Also... what firewall / antivirus does he have? Some have the capability to disable the connection and don't work in safemode which would explain why the internet works in safe mode. Big
Does any diagnosis/fix thing in windows work anytime? I have never been able to solve any of the problems i have found. I read some posts about your issue, most of them a bit old. One of them was solved disabling the antivirus.
