zeealice
when i turn on it likes making impressions of a whale, (in other words it groans) and it clicks at random times in its working day. my bet is the copper PCB thing in the mother board is dead or not doing its job , but i could easily be wrong here. what do you think
MeanMF
There aren't too many parts in a PC that make a lot of noise.. It's usually a fan that's dying and/or clogged with dust, or something that's loose and vibrating. Edited August 3, 2010 by MeanMF
zeealice
could be, the fans are cleaned every 6 months, there are eight in total, even though it's dangerous and stupid, i open up the power pack and give that a good dusting too. so i can imagine it will be failure imminent it's either that or the disk drive, (it happens when i put a disk in too) it's not that loud and HAVOK is almost there now so i give it 6 months and then the pc will be dead (im using old parts from it)
Buehgler_AS
10:1 it is a dirty/dying fan. How fast is the clicking? Anything faster than 5-10 clicks in a second is surely a fan. Loud click-thunks at 1-2 per second can be a sign of a disk drive that is getting ready to give out. Open it up and clean out the accumulated dust & dirt, then turn it on with the covers open and listen carefully -- you will isolate the source in no time. ROCO*AFZ*
Look @ your hard drive light. Does the clicking coincide with the light? Seen a few loud dieing hard drives in my day. Fan though is the easiest check. Stop each (except the power supply one) and see if the sound goes away. Also make sure the fins on your processor are clean when you clean the fans. zeealice
the whining has stopped, but trust me if you were to search up whale noises and add a VERY loud fan noise to that then that is what my PC was like. the clicking however is still there, i wouldnt call it grinding in a sense as a HDD failure ive had a seagate barracuda start dying on me 2 years back and it got replaced 18 months later and my old XBOX console has the same click so im familiar with sounds my hard drive is silent. i can hear ###### all when the lights blink. all the fans are clear of wires defects and dirt. the CPU only has thermal paste and a cooler sitting on it. so that rules those out, it's hard to explain but click your fingers an arm length away from your ears thats basically what it sounds like maybe slightly quiter, its not every 2 seconds its just every so often maybe an hours space between it (or more) so thats why i cant pinpoint it, is because theres no way of predicting it, it literally just happens. a low pitched beep can be heard from time to time too not just after the click thats just as randomly timed as the clicking. thanks for all your support i got more answers here than on yahoo and these are friendly answers. the whining was the CD drive giving way BTW i got a new one yesterday and installed it late last night.
