Newtothegame 0
Just wanted to know if multiplayer can be played directly between two computers with a CAT 5E crossover cable? (Lan cable between two computers)
Specter 0
Sure. Just plug in the IP of the machine serving, and your on your way.
Newtothegame 0
We tried that a few times and it just hangs at the connecting message How do you setup the MP main server for the host?
Tater 0
If it's Windows XP ya might have the firewall on. Try disabling it.
X69RZX 0
I've had trouble hooking up my win98 to my buddies XP machines. I had to manually configure both machines and then they worked fine. My suggestion, find a small router, 2 or 4 ports, you can get em for about $30, and if you plan to play often, (you will), it will be well worth it. Crimson 0
If the hosting machine is using a NIC, (probably is) make sure under NIC, the game is set to read your correct IP address. (Internal or External, cant remember.)
Newtothegame 0
I am using XP professional and am not sure what NIC is? What do you mean manually configure your machine. Does that mean go into TCP/IP settings and assign IP address type stuff?
Crimson 0
NIC - Network Interface Card If your hosting, go to Options | Multiplayer. Under "Choose Netword Interface Card", click the left arrow once. This is the IP people will join to get into your game.
X69RZX 0
Yes that is exactly it, but like I said this was to link between win98 and XP. Try 169.254.0.1 for one and 169.254.0.2 for the other with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 and they should see each other. X
