Dear All,

Anyone got experience with gaming on TFT screens?

According to technical manuals of the screens they all should have a response delay of +/- 20-25 milli seconds, which has to do with the slow reaction time of the used crystals in the screen itself.

This delay could be a problem in precision games like GR.

Altough a slim screen would look perfectly nice on my desk, i still like some nice stats at the end of the game.

Anyone on this one?

Regards, BlueRose_76

None to Speak of but a Friend of Mine has one and says that they are just as Good as the Regular Monitors and have much Crisper Images w/ the LCD Displays.

Oh, and for those who had to Investigate the Term like I did...

;)

TFT = "Thin Film Transistor".

That said - If You're experiencing ANY Issues, its recommended that You either do not use ANY Font Smoothing - Or - Limit Yourself to Standard Smoothing. To do this, follow the Navigation below :

Display Properties > Appearance > Effects > Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts > Standard

Sincerely,

I have a 15" Compac TFT (on my current server, was game machine for 2 years), that I have used for almost 3½ years now without any problems. I used to fly Jane's simulators on that one against friends with normal monitors and that was no problem. Large flight sim battles are among the most demanding you can use in 3D, when it comes to updates.

Also have a 17" Dell TFT on my current game machine that I have used for a bit over a year and no problems with that one either.

The only limit is that they don't support to high resolutions. The 15" I have supports up to 1024x768 which is ok for 15". But the 17" only supports up to 1280x1024, which I feel is a little to low sometimes. Depends on what you are doing of course. ;)

The big thing that hampers gaming on TFT and LCD for that matter is there is no way to set a refresh rate, and the are truly digital, unlike CRT's. They are either on or off, no inbetween. Liquid plasma is supposed to take care of all of this, and will be the next big leap, but for now is way to expensive to be practical.

CRT is still the way to go for gaming, especially gaming where reaction time is critical, and it is all full motion video.
