Win7 64-bit with older games and Photoshop7:

Recommended Posts

I have Win7 32-bit now, and someone posted at Crytek that games are finally working on 64-bit. I'm thinking of getting 64-bit since I have an extra 4GB memory that I can add to my current rig (see sig).

Problem: I still run with old school games:

--- Rainbow 6 (RedStorm Studio)

--- Rally Trophy

--- Colin McRae 2

--- Richard Burns Rally

--- GhostRecon (Redstorm Studio)

--- Crysis/Warhead

--- SimBin's Race07/GTR Evo/

would this be a problem?

btw, I run Photoshop 7, will this work with a 64-bit Win7

advance thanks

thanks guys.....I still got to research if my 10yr/old Epson scanner and printers will have driver problems

I have an Epson Stylus photo R200 and that works fine with the W7 default drivers

I also have an Epson Perfection1260 scanner, :wall: But that seems to be a no go on the 64-bit version of W7

I just checked Epson Support.

No Win7 support for my Epson Photo 750, but my Epson CX5800 and 1280 scanner is fine.

Hmmm...something to ponder and balance

There was no 64-bit version for my R200 but the default one with in W7 works just like the old epson driver, it gives me all the options and ink levels

I'd suggest dual-booting your rig with WinXP 32 and Win7 64 (which is what I'm doing with all my systems that I've installed Win7 in). That way you can still use some old games/apps and use your old devices with XP, and switch to 64-bit for stuff that needs more memory.

So are you saying you want to run your system with 8GB total RAM?

Your sig says you are running XP so I assume you have both the XP and Win 7 discs?

You can install both OS's on one HD, but you have to install XP before Win7.

If you've already installed Win7, you'd probably have to wipe your entire HD to do a clean reinstall for dual boot, so it's probably less work just to buy a second HD and start from scratch.

I personally set up my HD as:

C: Win XP

D: Win 7

E: Data (docs, photos, media etc) which I can access from both OS's.
