king pyrrhus
So I just started getting mods for Ghost Recon after having it since almost right when it first came out. I downloaded War of Infamy and all it's expansions but I have a problem. Well no matter what happens I am always forced to play as the 82nd Airborne. And I can only get the north africa campaign to show up on the expansions... and I'm playing as the US still when it should be the Brits. Any one have any idea? Also, am I posting this in the right forum?
Tinker
Hi king, correct forums, and welcome. In your mod folder you will have a folder called War of Infamy Like HERE Inside this folder you will find a WOI Launcher like THIS Double click on it to launch the WOI options. Box on the left will appear, select SP or MP by clicking on the soilders next to each text. Box on the right will appear. Select theater of war first, period if available, then you will be given a choise of available characters/forces for your choice. Few more options to select if needed. pointman_red
I have the same issue as OP, but when I use the application in the woi mod folder, it only offers me normandy as a theatre, and if I click WOI Mods, it can't detect it on my system (I think this is because I have GR on Steam). Any advice?
zeealice
out of utter interest and it may not apply to the mod, but do you both have desert siege and island thunder installed? they are both good to have on anyway.
Tinker
Highly doubt that Steam was taken into concideration when the mod launcher was created. This is a likely issue, and not much chance of fixing without the original author being around.
pointman_red
Yep, DS and IT installed, everything is in order. I assume the executable only looks in the raven storm folder path for files, instead of steam. Edited May 7, 2011 by pointman_red
pointman_red
Also having a similar issue with the platoon extender mod application. I'm guessing it's all down to steam.
OSO
Also having a similar issue with the platoon extender mod application. I'm guessing it's all down to steam. My eye caught this thread yesterday and sent DonMiguel a PM on facebook. I don't know what, if anything, can be done to help you guys on Steam. We'll just have to wait and see. zeealice
might be best, but int he mean time, i shall try find out the issue's solution without you all having to buy the CD version (which is like 20p on Amazon UK ) surely steam has had it on long enough to iron out bugs by now I'm 0% addicted to CounterStrike Edited May 8, 2011 by zeealice
pointman_red
Don't think its a bug or anything, mods like centcom and HU work, I just suspect its all down to the game files being in the steam directory. But I'll wait to see if DonMiguel can help.

DonMiguel
cool, or Tinker El Oso msg'd me on this and I'm not sure what it might be. I want to think I had an issue actually with it running on Vista/Win7 (was coded way before those came out, lol). Maybe try it with compatibility mode for those .exe's turned to WinXP SP3? Also, be sure the registry entry is there for the AppPath (GR.net had that how-to on it's tutorials years back, if it's not there now maybe someone can refresh our memories). Totally humbling and awesome to see people still playing these mods!!!!! Don't forget Frostbite or Year of the Monkey either!!!!

Totally humbling and awesome to see people still playing these mods!!!!! Don't forget Frostbite or Year of the Monkey either!!!! question: does steam create a ghost recon folder under it with a mods folder under it where \mp1 \mp2 \origmiss folders are? If so I think if you just updated the AppPath (if not there) to the Steam GR folder path it may work. Someone want to post a tree view of the folder structure so I can see it maybe we can verify somehow (as I already own GR I don't plan on buying it again to test). All the mod launchers, generic launcher, and WOI launcher used the apppath data in the registry. about the only "hardcoded" thing outside of mod folder names. Not sure if I have the code for that stuff anymore (El Oso, do you still have the old source data after that HD crash??? Maybe Mindriot or Bajabravo still have it if we can get ahold of them...... pointman_red
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ghost recon\Mods is my filepath to the mod folder. I do have mp1, mp2 and origmiss folders in there. There's no AppPath though. Tried running it in windows xp compatibility and as admin, still not working.
Tinker
No worry about the AppPath, that is apart of the program, where it looks for your mod folder. I assume this launcher works dependant on where you install the WOI mods? If so, is it just a case of installing all the mods manually instead of copying the folders to your steam mods folder? Simple question, does this application work if I have my gr/mods installed into G: directory? Or is it relying on it being in the default location? DonMiguel
no AppPath would definitely cause an issue. That was an entry that the original installer added when installing from CD and what alot of us modders used in the Wise/Clickteam type .exe installers (and eventually the launchers I did). Here's the AppPath registry entry info: Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\GhostRecon.exe Subkey: Path Subkey type: String Value: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ghost recon\ See if that will work for you. OSO
The registry values for steam installs look to be encrypted on my rig but I'm not sure. I've got a multiple hard drive rig. XP is installed on one of the hard drives and Windows 7 on the other. I do not have Steam installed on the same OS as GR. The registry path in windows 7 for steam is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps All of the nested directories are numbered. I only have 10 games on Steam and there are a whole slew of numbered folders here. IIRC Don set this up to pick up where GR is installed through your windows registry. Steam does something differently than the normal windows installer is my guess. DonMiguel
quick test to see without having to launch into it everytime would be to open up the \Mods\War of Infamy\Actor\Demolitions folder and open any .atr file in notepad. If you run the launcher and pick say the SS then hit apply and just click cancel when asked if you want to start WOI then you reopen the .atr you should see info in there that points to SS stuff. Do it again and pick russian or japanese and check again, same should be true. That'll let you know the launcher is changing the .atr files like it was made to do. pointman_red
Seem to have got it working now. Adding the key, all good. Thanks a bunch for the help, can't wait to try your mod out Edited May 10, 2011 by pointman_red
DonMiguel
hey, what'dya know, the old men still have it Oso! Glad to assist. I imagine mod launchers around the [GR] world that have a similar problem will have a similar solution to. Happy gaming!Hey Rocky, maybe this is a fix to add to any GR "check this before posting errors" thread? YOTM, Frostbite, WOI, any that use the mod launcher, and I think the other mod launcher that was out there all used the same registry entry for the path info. Might be useful. Hammer
Its nice to see that your still interested in your mod enough to take time out to fix this instead of leaving it other people to figure out Thanks Guys
Rocky
Okay I have added a FAQ entry HERE. However not being a modder and not being good in the registry I am not sure I have explained it well enough. If someone could take a look
