Rocky
I'm trying to get my kids laptop to connect to my PC's printer via the wireless home network. I had some bother getting the laptop to find the printer but as soon as I switched zonelarm off on my PC the laptop could see and connect to it. I have googled around but I can't understand the guides on getting zonelarm to permit the laptop access to the printer. Anyone done this and can explain in easy baby steps? Thanks. WhiteKnight77
Does the printer have it's own IP address? If so, have you entered it into ZoneAlarm's trusted zone? Try the I can't print with ZoneAlarm Products running page at ZA.
Rocky
I eventually solved it, I needed to add the printers laptop IP number to ZA but had trouble figuring out how to do that, the methods shown online were too complex So what I did was use a little lateral thinking. I tried to send a print from the laptop, then I checked the ZA log to see what IP number just tried to connect and viola, there was the IP number I need to permit
WhiteKnight77
So it was blocking your daughter's laptop then?
Rocky
Sorry I said that all wrong DOH, yes I mean it was blocking her laptop.
wombat50
lateral thinking That was genius. I am big on the empirical method myself. Which amounts to messing around until the solution knocks me squarely over the head.
