RooK
Here's the bill- http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:H.R.2038: I urge anyone in the US to contact their representatives and let them know how you feel about this, as follows is a summary for those who want a quick overview. Summary: Renews the '94 AWB as well as extending it to ban basicly every semi-auto military based firearm. This includes the AR-15 varients, Ruger Mini-14 and even the M1 Carbine is listed. Various features similar to the previous ban are mentioned in the restrictions. Also added are restrictions on hanguns features, one being threaded barrels (no more screw on compensators). There is also a very vague provision to allow the Attorney General to declare any firearm of military descent (basicly any firearm) an 'Assault Weapon' and ban it. Piccolo
I was under the impression that the 94 Crime bill had Just been voted out? If thats the case, I think the possibility of this new bill being passed is pretty low.
ReconSnake
We can certainly hope so. A call to your representatives goes a long way too. RS
Specter
Actually, what it is, is the 94 bill was a ten year bill and is due to expire in Nov, 2004. What they are trying to do is extend it, with some of their stupid little revisions in place. Damn Nazis. What they fail to understand is that they are only disarming the responsible, law abiding citizens. The felons, criminals, and scourge of the streets dont care about laws and regs. Anyway, Im not even going to start that argument. Please, write your congressman and let them know that there are already more than 23,000 gun laws on the books in this country, and if they havent made a difference, another stupid gun law wont. Personally, I like being on equal footing.

RooK
Here's a good overview as given by the NRA: http://www.nraila.org/FactSheets.asp?FormM...e=Detail&ID=
Specter
I got news for ya. They arent taking my guns. Like the saying says, 'You can pry it from my cold dead fingers'. I know its sounds a little extreme, and I am not an extreme person. But I am tired of paying for the governments inability to use common sense, and straighten itself out, things like the justice system, and so called criminal's rights. They are working the wrong side of the p[roblem, and are too stupid to see the light. And quite frankly, I dont trust the protection of my family to public servants. They dont train enough, and they are too worried about liability do to criminals rights. But, I do trust me, and a very few other people. Walking into a seven eleven at midnight and seeing a responsible citizen strapped doesnt bother me in the least. Me not having one does. hephaestus
here here. I just turned 21 recently, and frankly, I don't want to live a defenseless adult life. As soon as possible, I would like to apply for my carry permit and I would like to continue to carry for the rest of my life. We have the right to defense, and that being true, I will defend that right. Firearms are not the heart of the matter, they are only a means. Anyone in his or her right mind knows this to be true. hephaestus
The drive around in armored limos with a whole squad of bodyguards. well. yeah. they have to feel important somehow. plus, they have to do something with all the campaign money they usually get... RooK
I think this is a classic example of 'give them an inch, they'll take a mile'. Past Congressmen let Clinton and his cronies get away with the AWB, and now they're seeking to ban every semi-automatic firearm. Next will be a handgun ban (beyond what's listed in this ban) until it's all gone.
hephaestus
Yeah, pretty much. 'Those people' don't want firearms around period. I guess 'those people' also think we dont know what they're doing, just because they want a lil law here and a lil law there. They're trying to boil a frog, but it's not working...yet. Slowly but surely, freedom is being replaced with so-called 'security'. You know it. I know it. And, 'those people' like control in general, so I kinda wonder what comes next, after firearms... warhawk
whats that quote by hitler on the subject of gun control? Ask and ye shall receive! This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future! — Adolf Hitler, 1935 on the passing of the German Weapons Act. If this doesn't ever sound familiar. Don't forget that those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it. RooK
That quote by Hitler is a hoax. They actually had gun registration before the Nazi party took over Germany (I believe) and there are no confirmed documents of that actual speech. Does this firearm banning not remind people of prohibition? They banned alcohol, people who wanted it got it in many more ways than one. The ban was eventually lifted due to the lack of it actually working and the violence increase it caused, and those who enacted it said they were wrong. They dont train enough, and they are too worried about liability do to criminals rights. That bottom paragraph rings very true to me. I have a great deal of respect for law enforcement types, especially considering the amount they are paid with regard to the amount of crap they take. However, I've had quite a few conversations with a few of them to make me very nervous about the fact that they interpret the law and carry a firearm. Not to mention, the average LEO does not train enough with firearms. This is not true across the board so any lurking LEOs please take of this. Do I think I'm better qualified to protect myself than most LEOs? Yep. I sure do. If we had a way to do it, I would be much more selective about who we place in LEO positions. I would also double their pay. Individuals that feel that they are being respected with regard to pay and hold a position that is somewhat elite have a tendency to take their jobs very seriously. Beyond that point, it's not their responsibility to protect my family and myself. From a personal or constitutional perspective.
