Ubi apparently has introduced a new way to get more from your games with Uplay. You get points for completing achievements in game (you get 10 points just for going to the website even) to unlock content or get other rewards. Apparently the content is already in the game, you just have to complete a mission to unlock said content.

For some games, this might be OK, but is it really a good idea for others? I am no so sure. I am already seeing requests for Silent Hunter V to be included in this and I do not believe a game like SHV is a good game to put this in. I for one do not want to have to complete a particular mission just to get a new sub or torpedo. What if I do not sink x amount of tonnage, yet due to the time I can already refit to a new sub or get new torpedo types? If I start a campaign in a type VIIA Uboat in 37, I should be able to get a type VIIC Uboat in 38-39 when it becomes available.

I have said it before and I will say it again, games should be released in a complete state, with all intended features. If other features are wanted, release it as a mission pack and not just a map, character, weapon or other feature here and there. Mission packs as DLC (which is paid for) will add more in the long run than "cheap" features such as achievements to keep people interested. Good game design negates the need to have rewards to get more from a game.

Seems silly to me. They're copying EA, who has a similar overarching point system in their games -- except for ea it's sports games, and it kinda makes sense to win a throwback jersey or special boxing gloves or whatever. Ubisoft primarily deals in shooters and action games, i cant see this integrating smoothly.
