Press release from EA:

EA GOES TO WAR WITH ALL-NEW ‘MEDAL OF HONOR’

EA Re-boots Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting

LOS ANGELES, California – December 2, 2009 – Medal of Honor™ returns to the front lines, this time in today’s war. For the first time in the franchise’s 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed that in 2010, Medal of Honor, an all-new first-person shooter game, will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle. The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the U.S. Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience. Set against the backdrop of a rugged and brutal Afghan landscape, Medal of Honor depicts modern military operations through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today’s most elite American soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.

Medal of Honor is being built with a best-in-class single-player campaign. The Medal of Honor development team at EALA has been hand-selected by the studio leadership of General Manager Sean Decker, Executive Producer Greg Goodrich and Senior Creative Director Rich Farrelly. To compliment the single-player experience, EALA has enlisted the multiplayer expertise at EA DICE. This team will develop the multiplayer experience of Medal of Honor. These two studios are coming together to deliver a world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set and re-boot the franchise for a new generation.

“When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war.” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. “We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.”

“EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium – videogames,” said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. “We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.”

Authenticity? Umm.... In MoH:AA it took atleast half a mag of MP40 rounds in the chest at point blank range to take down an enemy. That is NOT authenticity.

That would be realism. I think he's probably talking about authenticity with regards to setting, equipment, scenarios and such. Not that one guy infiltrating an enemy sub base and massacring everyone inside was an authentic scenario, but alot of the missions were based on real operations.

I might buy this. Although my games of choice are realistic squad-based shooters, I enjoyed the multiplayer in MOH: Allied Assault. I much preferred it to the CoD games, mostly because I sucked at MP in CoD 1&2 for some reason.

I just paged through the latest issue of GamePro magazine that hit newsstands Feb 2. It has a cover story on the reboot of the MoH franchise and it looks promsing. The cover of the mag has the same pic as the box art:

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/the-meda...over-interview/

Of interest is that they allowed the magazine staff to interview 3 "Tier 1 Operators" that are consulting on the game. Tier 1 Operators are a major part of the game and the article says these soldiers so secret it is apparently illegal in the States to reveal their true identities.

I'm actually more interested in what the designation of these "Tier 1 Operators" is - they are said to be "best of the best" and are picked from the Army Special Forces, Rangers, SEALs, and MARSOC (Marines Special Ops Command). Anyone have more info on this?

OK guys, I think we can stop talking about the box cover image :ermm:

I guess my main question could these "Tier 1 Operators" be Delta or are they a different group? My understanding is Delta mainly comes from US Army SF or Rangers, while this organization portrayed in the new MoH is different? And if this organization is portrayed in a game, how classified could they be?

Anyways, EA has dated the new MoH game between July and Sept of this year according to VE3D - avoiding a head-to-head clash with CoD7 and GR4?

Tier 1 is CAG and DevGru types.... basically anything designated as a Special Mission Unit (SMU), of which there are not a lot of. Tier 2 are the Army SF and SEALs.

Thanks John, that clears things up for me considerably.

And thanks for the Wikipedia links Led

Medal of Honor executive producer Greg Goodrich has told IncGamers that "certain things will remain" from past iterations of the franchise.

"Nowadays there are certain things that a first-person shooter player expects, and we want to make sure that we're doing something that they're accustomed to, and what we like and what our fans like," Goodrich told us. "There are also things that the Medal of Honor player expects; things that have been in this franchise since its infancy."

Medal of HonorWhat sort of things, you ask? "Peek and lean is something that has always been in Medal of Honor, and we'll keep that," Goodrich told us.

"Even though we're moving onto a new war, a new enemy, and a new warrior, there are certain things that will remain, independent of what the timeframe is and who the enemy is."

LOL, peek and lean was conspiciously absent in MW2.

Hopefully they don't take out prone position like EA's Bad Company 2

Can anyone here confirm that peek and lean was invented by RSE in Rogue Spear? :shifty:

There was leaning in OR6 too (1998 august) ... or was there? I can't remember. It was definitely in Thief (1998 november) though. Don't know about any older titles that had the feature.

Leave it to the SEALs to yet again be an over-publicized, overrated unit :/

And Rangers are big Army? Either a lots changed since May 09 2009, or These guys need to un-%&%* their storyline.

Once I stop being such a military critic, and look at this preview, the game looks interesting. Look forward to future updates.

I just checked my R6 jewel case, leaning was not included.

EA has announced that Medal of Honor will be released on 15th October in Europe.

Last Friday Activision revealed that its new Call of Duty title, Black Ops, would be with us on 9th November.

The new Medal of Honor is a modern reboot for the ageing first-person shooter series, starring Tier 1 Operators in Afghanistan.

The single-player campaign is being developed by EA Los Angeles while Swedish studio DICE is handling multiplayer.

Hanging on the telephone!!

This game has potential. I tried posting on the forums there, however, the people remind me of me when I first started here on GR.net.

Zit faced arm chair commando's that know everything. I can't exist in this type of environment, it causes my blood pressure to go up.

Nonetheless, I hope they do it right. Rangers in the video had some accuracies, but were, for the most part, incorrect. (m14, really?)
