FPS with LCD monitors

Recommended Posts

As good as the computer is, fps isn't a measure of the monitor its a measure of your computer drawing the frames. With VSync off you get a true measure, VSync on makes your computer wait until the monitor is done displaying the frame (your refresh rate).

What Super-Bob said aside... LCDs are terrible for games unless you buy one of the top-of-the-line models. The screens don't refresh fast enough, thus you get ghosting. Also, there are problems supporting anything other than the native resolution the monitor was made for.

You're best getting a larger CRT for the same price or, if you're set on a LCD, get a good graphics card (to play games at the native resolution no matter what) and try them out in person before you choose a model.
