Hammer Posted November 22, 2009 Share Posted November 22, 2009 Im running Windows 7 on my main PC with a 22" Samsung syncmaster it been running great at 1680 x 1024 since install a month ago. I just built a second rig running XP so i can use it for modding and all is well. i decided to instal a KVM switch to save on the hassel of changing over leads as i only have the 1 monitor. I purchased a Belkin switch2 kvm it was no hassel to install and there was no software involved. Now the problem i have is my win7 rig no longer recognises my monitor !! it just lists it as a "Generic non pnp type" ? and it does not list the monitors optimal screen res. The nearest it lists is 1600 x 1050 this has really screwed up my games as most now only show an available screen res of 1600 x 900 !! even good old GR has been effected and over writing the ortions XML and protecting it does not work. The XP rig is fine has no problems with the screen rez at all. Anybody got any sensible ideas Thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Pave Low Posted November 22, 2009 Share Posted November 22, 2009 The KVM is blocking the normal device identification Try loading a "monitor driver" on both PC's, should be one on a CD/Floppy that came with your monitor (or D/L if one is available on the web) it's usually an INF file and colour profile, this should add the necessary info for the PC to use the higher resolution your monitor should have a DVI port and a VGA port, so you could just connect the Win 7 machine to the monitor via a DVI cable and connect the XP via a VGA cable then it's only a button push to select between DVI/VGA input Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Pave Low Posted November 22, 2009 Share Posted November 22, 2009 Usually it's on the side or front of the monitor "input selector" you push it to scroll between the different inputs ... the Samsung's buttons seem to be on the right side, not all models have an input selector though, but they have a "customized key" you might be able to use You can customize key assignment for the Custom button according to your preferences You can configure the customized key for a required function via Setup > Customized Key.
