I know this is somewhat topical due to the recent release of FB, but I was considering doing the same thing in my MOD to increase the realism factor.

Thought I'd do a bit of market research first ;)

Interested to hear ppls views.

I quite like mods with and without the feature. But I think the most realsitic setting would be for the red fire direction indicators to be visible, so to replace the directional capabilities of your own hearing. The proximity functions should be deactivated, and the enemy map locations should be deactivated. Thats my two pence worth.

I would tend to agree with phatbenny. I play with the proximity part turned off but with the direction indicator on. This way i can tell which way the shots are coming from, the same as you can tell with your ears in reality. But on a whole either way is fine for me.

That's what I did the first time in early 2002. Still have it that way in Swedish Force.

In the Frostbite /Swedish Force combo you will se a version between FB and SF that has only the compass and waypoint indicators.

Personally I refer the TI with the center parts removed so you still get the 3D reference when someone shoots at you.

Brothers in Arms was the first mod I played where the TI was off. It was a different experience and fun, but I would prefer to keep it because it was a little frustrating when one of the enemies ran off into a corner and I had to search the entire map to finish the mission. And wouldn't you know, he was in the last place I looked.

Well that's why objectives to neutralize all enemies aren't really good. How often do you have that objective in real life? Never to kill everyone at least.

EDIT:

But then again that adds to the reason to have it as a X objective. :P To see how badly the player wants the specialist.:devil:

Lol. :P:lol:

I figured some people would that when I saw that the entire TI was gone. I guess we have to keep out eyes more on the horizon to see that we are going straight.

EDIT: And to add, I talked to El_Oso about this yesterday and he's thinking about adding the compass if there will be a patch. Guess you'll have to wait and see if it comes.

I think it's a good challenge without the TI. The guys at RSI have made it real easy to turn off without completely removing it. All you gotta do is track an actor as a single treat and then kill him. No more TI. But, you still get your COMPASS, which is what it is, and your waypoint locator, as well as the fire direction locator. I prefer to the TI off, if you played my assassination mission you know I do  , but the compass is instrumental in comunication when playing coop, the enemy is north-northeast of your postion. Pretty hard to do without a compass, or by looking up at the horizon for that matter. I don't care, I just move in a direction and kill anything that moves, but that's my opinion on the thang. X

Hmmm, that all sounds familiar. BiA anyone? For a long time I have played without the threat indicator but I like to retain the red fire direction indicators because the one thing not emulated well on a computer is your ability to detect which direction shots are coming from. Maybe the new 5:1 sound system do OK at this but that's not much help if you are using headphones. I have been playing co-op with my son recently and as he is very much learning we have the TI turned on - interestingly, I find the damn thing quite confusing and I actually play better without it. They should definitely lose that one for GR2 IMO.

I dont use threat indicator in SP unless the mission requires me to kill every enemy on the level (I hate it when the last guy you spent 6 minutes looking for is behind your spawn point).

In multiplayer I use it to look at where the enemy fire is coming from (gotta love it when they fire right at start to let you know where they are).

Now on Frostbite, I go dizzy real fast runing around looking at the map to find out which way is north (button under wheel is quick map) and needless to say got waxed by some Swedes.

I actually resorted to old school way of navigation- look at map and remember go straight past the 2 paths then turn right near the tank then go by the house.

I love the mod, but I am all for a compass of some sort.

But its not like I'm gonna die without one though.

I personally prefer playing with the TI turned off. That said, it is an option you can turn off in game and I think it should stay that way. I don't think beginners should be forced to play without it if their used to having it. My two cents. :)

Yes and no. I have removed it for my mods becouse I make the missions with that reference in mind. I want some enemies to be able to be close even though the player does not know. If I make a mission like that I don't want it to be played with the full TI so I simply remove it as a sing that it was ment to be that way.

I have to agree with PhatBenny as well. It's nice to have an indication of the direction shots are coming from. Just not the direction the enemy is in. But the FB mod still rocks.

You found Swedes in Frostbite? Now you must have been dreaming.

Well to me, anyone in the artic with a gun is a swede.

Even if the game was "Ghosts infiltrating Canada and removing political power" (mod idea folks ;) ) I would still call'em swedes at one point.

Wheres my damn hot choco??

:lol::lol::lol:

:P

*just added*

Heres a good idea, reskin the claymores and frags to have a artic camo for MP.

Of course all I have to do is set a claymore and stand next too a tree, like those clever enemies do. Cant tell you how many times I got killed by one in a tree 2 feet away from me.

Just to be sure, is the question "turn off TI" or "remove completely" because there is quite a difference, and I belive the line is being blurred. Complete removal of TI from the HUD results in loss of compass and waypoint locator, not just TI or even fire direction locator. So there is a distinct difference between the two. I am all for no TI, I even think removal of the fire dir. loc. is ok, makes it real hard when your team is firing too, but I do want my compass and waypoints locator. X

Don't you just love democracy

Decision made based on public opinion - the TI will be modified but not removed. You'll still get the compass and you'll still have the fire direction locator.

Gone are the enemey nearby red dots and gone are the enemy directional yellow thingy's
