Rocky
I'm working on a few new features for GhostRecon.net at the moment, and one is ready to go live now... Anyone browsing GhostRecon.net from a mobile device will automatically be redirected to the mobile version. Visitors using the iPhone will be treated to a specially formatted version of the site that perfectly fits the iPhone screen and supports landscape viewing. There are links to all the news pages, download pages and a choice of a special low bandwidth (same content) version of the forums, or the full normal forums. I hope some people find it of use! Anyone curious to see how it looks can view it through a standard browser here.
Whisper_44
Loving it Rocky!!! At the airport, on the iPhone reading the news. Thank you very much.

bogiegraphics
Very nice, Rocky! I'm currently on my iPhone right now typing this message. The portal page worked great. Unless I missed somthing, I could not post on the low version. This will certainly be handy in the near future when I have to travel. Now I can stay in touch a little better. Now back to my PC ) Bogie
Rocky
Right enough, I never noticed that. You would have to click the link at the bottom of the thread to view the normal version before clicking add reply. I have to say I kind of like the thread listing in the mobile version, nice a neat. Outstanding job Rocky! Way to keep this site updated with the times. I usually browse the full version of the forums as it loads fast enough on the iPhone. Also could I suggest a link to GR2 news? JohnTC02
As my mobile is very basic I've been thinking about upgrading it to a better model, I am a bit out of touch with the latest mobiles so can anyone suggest a half decent phone (preferably Pay as you go) that would have all the features needed to allow me full access to this site. I would like a iPhone but that's way out of my budget. Thanks
Whisper_44
Do they they offer refurbished phones in the UK? An iPhone 3g is currently $49 here in the states...

the Godfather
i am hoping u can continue to work on this to offer more support for us smart phone users and blackberry abusers...since blackberry is obviously the most popular smartphone today...can you make an opera mini 5 specific version? i am using my blackberry storm right now and since I have such a high resolution the site looks grainy. Opera mini is basically the same as safari...and blackberry is going to be pushing it on all their devices soon.
Rocky
Hi I am not sure how it looks grainy... do you mean http://www.ghostrecon.net/mobile/ looks grainy? Or the full normal site looks grainy? Neither of those links have compressed images so I am not sure where the grainyness is coming in, can you post a screenshot? Please do, it sounds like something your mobile browser is doing, as it should display exactly the same as it does in IE or FF. If you send a SS I will take a look though. Tactical Jerky
Nice work only the mobile site doesn't seem to display the same up to date news compared to when I visit the normal page on my PC. Also would it be possible to add a link that gives you the option to use the normal version for those with capable devices?
Rocky
Nice work only the mobile site doesn't seem to display the same up to date news compared to when I visit the normal page on my PC. Also would it be possible to add a link that gives you the option to use the normal version for those with capable devices? You raise two good points. The lack of news posts looks like it's due to an old backup being installed that predates the addition of the mobile pages. I'll rectify that this weekend. The second point is not so easy. I can do this two ways. The first way is as it stands, the browser detects which device is viewing the site and displays the appropriate page - mobile or normal. It's not possible to have a link to the "normal" site here, because the page will perpetually check for a mobile device and re-direct mobile users to it. The other option is to have the normal site show on all devices, with a link somewhere on the index page that mobile users can click (or bookmark) to visit the mobile version. It makes no difference to me, I can programme either option...
Tactical Jerky
I'm not into web designing so I don't know how these things work. But I know that some sites with both a standard and a mobile version, first provide you their mobile one, but also allow you to permanently disable the mobile version and have the desktop one instead. If I'm right Gizmodo, Youtube and Wikipedia all have it this way. Also on my iPod I'm using an app called Useragent Faker, which tricks websites into thinking that they're actually dealing with a desktop browser and not a mobile device. And so get the standard version of their site. However your site apparently isn't fooled that easily as it simply gives me the mobile version instead. Btw don't let my posts make you think that your work of building a mobile version isn't appreciated. Sometimes I find dealing with a specially designed site without any nonsense going on more comfortable on my iPod, than from behind a PC.
