Frostbite

It's a real simple mission to beat once you figure out where the suspected general is located.

I thought about this, but for some very strange reason disregarded it. Probably was suspicious of it's simplicity.

FB is BEYOND a mod.... this is a full blown expansion pack+++

I would have gladly paid for this, as an expansion pack... and have felt I had more than gotten my money's worth!

Anyone involved in FB should be quite proud of all the mind boggling work that must of gone into this!

THANKS!!!!!!!!! :)

I also would pay for these if they were to keep coming. With guys like you doing mods, the game will last forever.

Anyway, someone above did bring up something that I hadnt thought to mention. We also had a problem with the hostages, even after they were in the LZ. Is this a possible glitch, or something we did? We tried several times, where we had to take the airfield, and in the LZ they were alive, but the mission ended saying a hostage was killed. There was also one other mission where it kept ending saying that a friendly, not necessarily a hostage was killed.

Just thought I'd bring it up.

Oh, and for the record, the music was great!

The airport mission is setup to end in the event that a hostage is killed. This will happen even if they are in the extraction zone if you haven't completed the other objectives. In other words, they aren't invisible or invincible. Best way to beat this mission is to rescue the hostages last after the other objectives are completed.

I think the other mission you are referring to is mission 4. If you read any of the briefings you might have a better understanding of my scripting in this one. The background is that the Norwegians are playing a support role in this conflict and at this point their government is getting fed up with the high amount of casualties to their forces. I scripted into that mission to protect the Norwegians. Failure to do so results in a mission loss.

On another note, I originally had nearly twice as many tangoes in all the missions compared to the final versions that you are playing today. I reduced these amounts through playtesting to allow the mod to be playable on lower end systems. :(

I'm positive that there are other scripters out there that we'll see some Frostbite missions made by.

As for me, the mod is done in my eyes as far as missions go. I have new projects lined up that need attention.

Longtime lurker, 1st-time poster here...I'm now playing mission 6 "Frigid Keep", and, after entering the castle, I get this "Matrix" thing happening with my display. The walls start flickering, and then stuff starts "dripping" from the the top of my screen to the bottom. Any ideas?

In any case, Frostbite is hands-down the best mod I've played, and I've played them all. Its scope and innovation is staggering, and I can only say that I am humbled by what I can see was the incredible amount of time & effort that the creators have put into Frostbite.

@John Pain: The music in the missions was added for atmosphere. It is a game after all and not a true firefight. I suppose you would critique a movie director of a war flick for adding a musical score to that too.

It's up to you to delete it if you don't care for it, but I won't assume any responsibilities for technical support on a modified version of a mission that I created.

Great mod, but I agree with John Pain, the music is to annoying. Not bad, just annoying. I want to listen to the game (footsteps etc) but can't when the music is on. The best would be if you had a option to turn it on or off, that way we could decide. Now we are forced the listen to it, i.e. no choice. So could you tell me what files I need to delete in order to get rid if them?

Thx.

Regarding my previous post, my "Matrix" problem has apparently fixed itself. When I went back to get a screenshot of the effect, I can't replicate it. In any case, thanks for your attention.

I finished "Frigid Keep" (which is actually Mission 7) and promptly worked through Mission 8. Having completed the Frostbite campaign, I can only give my heartfelt compliments to El Oso, Neutron, et al, for their work.

 I tried several times to download the mod and installed but still failed. When the progress bar was at 42%, I received the following error:

Cannot create the following file:

...\Mods\Frostbite\map\damaged_radar\burnedtreveb|?$$A

and the installation stopped. Please kindly assist. I tried download the mod from both Fileplanet and DaSmerg.net but both downloads got the same error.

Regards,

Joseph Liu

Learn how to use IGOR... I ain't about to tell you how to destroy my work. You whiners are acting like there is music playing during the entire mission. I've got no problems hearing the other sounds playing simultaneously.

If you don't like it, you can always delete the whole mod off your hard drive. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. ;)

That's a bit harsh, don't you think? I haven't heard anybody saying anything bad about this mod, on the contrary. But when I make a comment about how I don't want to hear the music (and ask how to delete it - which BTW was your own suggestion in a earlier post) you call me a whiner.

You don't have to give support if you don't want to, I respect that, but there is no need to be rude just because I have a different opinion then you.

Thanx anyway.

I'd just like to put in my two cents on the subject of the music in Frostbite. Frankly, I love it! El Oso, Neutron, and company have created a mod that sets the bar very high for the rest of the modding community, not least of which is their creation of a truly unique immersive environment for GR -- that includes, among other great things, MUSIC. And this music is very well placed within the context of each mission, much like the soundtrack for a movie.

And, as robust as Frostbite is, I'm interested if others are going to step up and create modifications to this mod, further developing what has become a part of GR that is as indispensable as DS and IT.

WOW !!! kudos to all who had a hand in this mod . IT ROCKS !! i am blown away ..seriously . not a single flaw in it imho . the graphix are so sweet and the attention to detail is overwhelming . i stayed up all nite playing it cause i couldn't stop..with my new radeon9200(from a 32meg gf2) this seems like a whole new game now. cannot wait to play this online !! the opening movies and mission objectives on the fly are great . the skins, the models WOW !! and to think this is not an 'official' expansion pack. better than any pack in my mind. i can see myself playing this for hours on end. i was getting rather bored (blasphemy , i know) with gr and Frostbite has killed any sense of boredom. and to think i have only completed the first mission, the rest of my time was spent on in-depth recon  . i always like to try new missions online for the first time . Once again thanks to all involved in Frostbite, i cannot imagine all the hard work and endless hours that must have gone into the production of this mod. you lads should be put on the payroll at redstorm to help in ghost recon 2 !!

one question though- the diemaco sw sd for some reason emits no sound when i fire , i know it is silenced but to not make a sound at all, is this supposed to do that ? i ran the frostbite launcher after install as mentioned in read-me but thinking maybe i screwed up .

EDIT: was reading other posts and seems the sound issue may be related to o.s. as i am running millenium as well. has anyone figured this out ?

I love this mod's enviroment...but the best I think has to be inside the Castle! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!

Very, very, nice work in that castle. I was playing Firefight HX 85 enemies on that map, and it was great to have a shootout inside the castle with all those enemies. :o=

Great work guys!

That castle should make for some great team firefights.

Hey Frostbite crew - amazing work! I have run across a possible balance problem in the first mission that I wanted to ask about. (spoiler alert)

Since I have no specialists yet, there are only 2 demo men available at the start. One has to bring demo charges, so I had 1 M136 with 3 rounds. I used them on three tanks on the lower half of the map, then when I moved up to the radar station there's the SAM vehicle.

Having the SAM vehicle launch grenades at you I thought was a nice touch, except that I couldn't destroy the vehicle due to being out of ammo. Then when the extraction LZ was set up ten feet away from the SAM, I was unable to complete the mission because the LZ was covered by the invincible SAM vehicle.

Unless I'm missing something here, I now have to start the mission over and save an M136 round till the end. Maybe make the SAM vehicle vulnerable to grenades or something to avoid this problem for others.

Also, I had trouble with FAMAS SD sniper rifle and HK G36 - multiple chest hits and bad guys don't go down. Is this an oversight, or are you modeling better body armor than previous GR enemies have had? (Head shots were deadly as usual).

One last thing - there seems to be a problem with the sound for full auto fire on the AG3. (sounds like one round then silence).

Overall I'm very impressed, just wanted to bring these few things up.

I have to agree JB. Sounds like someone has a bloated ego there, ever hear of a little constructive criticism bud ? I praised your mod and thanked everyone, that doesnt mean your perfect dude.

Yeah the music may be great fellas but not if you and your squad are trying to communicate on a comms channel.

I wont be replying to this thread any longer, just thought it was odd that someone gets jumped on for critiquing something.
