teddemen
so i had installed and played many times: ghost recon, desert seige, island thunder... then i found out about his new mod called " a cold in hell" so i downloaded it and realized i need to update GR to version 1.4 as well s Frostbite 1.3 i got all that but when i installed the GR 1.4 patch it kept asking me for the original cd rom which i kept trying to put in but was never accepted by Vista.... it kept saying to put in the disk and restart application and i kept doing that but it just didnt work at all (no clue why) then after googling a bit i learned that i need to install the 1.4 patch BEFORE installing desert seige and tropic thunder... so i un-installed GR alltogether and re-installed the original GR disk and tried to install the 1.4 patch but it said that i need to have GR v1.3 first....then i realized that when i try to go into it (just play or execute the game) it says that the application has stopped working.... and thats it... so i cant even go into where i was before... playing just the regular GR. its totally fuct. help? why cant i even get the original GR to work? it did before! and now it doesnt at all! ######?!?!?!?! wow... i just learned that i cant post the acronym w...t...f... wow.... its a forum about a game thats about killing people but u cant even use a acronym for saying a swear word.... wow
wombat50
I had a friend with a similar problem. He was getting a protection error and it included "debugger detected" So if you are getting a protection error try this: On your computer go to C:\Program Files\Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon There is a file there called options.xml. You want to open it with notepad so you can edit it. Do this by right clicking on options.xml and from the drop down menu select "open with". Select notepad from the menu or you may have to browse for it by selecting, "Choose program..." Once you have it opened with Notepad edit this line to read as: <ShowIntro>FALSE</ShowIntro> Close notepad and save changes when asked. teddemen
i looked for the "options" file like u suggested, but there isnt one there. also im not sure if it is a protection error... when i try to launch the game, vista just says: "ghostrecon.exe has stopped working" and i have uninstalled the game and reinstaled it in the past, and it worked then... could it be that this time it stopped working cause i tried to install the 1.4 patch while having the expansion packs installed? or maybe because i tried installing frostbite before having the 1.4 patch installed? (although i dont think frostbite actually installed cause i dont see a trace of it anywhere)
wombat50
I had forgotten that GR has to have a successful first launch for it to write the options.xml. I uploaded a copy of mine at: http://hosted.filefront.com/wombat50 size 4 kb Put it in: C:\Program Files\Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon If it gets the game to launch you can reset any of the settings in the game options. Hope it works as that is the last good idea I have.
migryder
I hate that you are going through all this just because you wanted to play P2... this is not going to help much if any I don't think, though you may take note for later...but I get that 'insert original disk.." message alot with XP..I always use my IT disk though and it works fine doing that once the game is at least patched up through IT installation which is 1.35 I beleive..I don't understand why you would be told to install the 1.4 patch then install DS and IT... I just found this little tidbit of info if you happen to be using GR Gold Edition... http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php...st&p=540231 mig
GreyHaired
Make sure you cleaned the registry and removed any Red Storm entertainment folders on your HDD. There's a guide under "important topics" at the top of the Tech support forum. After the uninstall you can also run the registry cleaner of ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com) as well as the standard cleaner of this program. The order of installation is: GR DS IT Patch 1.
teddemen
well i did all above recommended and managed to install GR and both expansion packs as well as the 1.4 patch and frostbite 1.2 then 1.3 patch. however i am still not able to play the game as it keeps asking me for the "original cd rom"... and like before; i put it in and it just keeps asking for it as if it was not there (i tried all 3 disks as well) should i try some no disk patch or something of that sort? (i havent yet cause im afraid it might mess things up) any other suggerstions?
teddemen
ok got it working! i just used a nocd patch i found somewhere, and finally the game works again! its weird that the 1.4 patch made GR ask for a disk in the first place (i never needed it to play the game before) and i wish i just tried using the [Thing that should not be spoken of here IAW Forum Rule 3.7] patch in the first place (before uninstalling and reinstalling and all that registry bs) but, whatever... the point it its all good again. thanx to all for the help !
