CR6 0
So Vista SP2 has been showing up on my "New Updates Available" but I'm holding off for awhile. Just wondering if anyone has tried it yet and any improvements/issues? There are reports around the 'net that it frees up GB's of space on your HD for some reason ... Pave Low 16
Just wondering if anyone has tried it yet and any improvements/issues? Yes, I got it on release and have it on 3 PC's + a laptop, was a smooth simple install and didn't take that long. cant say I have noticed any "sudden improvements" in day-to-day use that can attribute to it, but I have had absolutely no problems at all on any of the machines, everything is running fine There are reports around the 'net that it frees up GB's of space on your HD for some reason ... Yes, that's because it includes a post-installation clean up tool, that also removes lots of other older update installation packages as well as those for the SP2 installation

I noticed no improvements or change until you mentioned that. I've just checked and I've got just over 9GB back. Bizarre. DS

ROCO*AFZ* 0
Made one of my work pc's no longer access the network or internet. Ended up reloading it. That pc though had been through some hardware upgrades (total gutting and such). @ home and rest of the office... no problems.... and as astated... nothing new noticed really. CR6 0
Thanks for the prompt responses! I will download it tonight and install SP2 on one of my home systems. I still haven't tried IE8 either as the RC gave me some problems (crashes). IE8 actually got unintentionally installed on one of my work systems by automatic updates today - methinks a bit too much configuring for the average user with accelerators, compatiblity mode etc. Sheesh. Not really an issue for those that use Firefox ...
Dick Splash 23
I still haven't tried IE8 either as the RC gave me some problems (crashes).I was 'offered' the IE8 update two weeks ago by MS and at the time I wished I hadn't installed it. Straight away I noriced physical differences in appearence along the top bars. It took me a day or two half heartedly trying to change it to how I wanted it. I'm ok with it now. One handy feature is if you highlight a word or a sentence a blue box appears to the right of it providing you with options eg. search, translate or send in an email. They're called accelerators. Good luck with it. Dang, so it auto deletes porn huh?No...eighteen months of unwanted GR.net cookies and Ubi hate mail! DS
WhiteKnight77 1
I installed SP2 on my laptop yesterday. I didn't get any space cleared up. Vista never even recognized that I removed 22+GB of music either.
CR6 0
Well, SP2 installed on my Pentium4/Vista Ultimate rig with no probs - started the install, went away for half an hour and when I came back it was done, despite the dialog saying it might take more than an hour. Didn't free up any HD space for me though. Free space in my Vista partition before install was 45.1GB, after install was actuall less at 43.3GB. Perhaps the Vista uses another partition to put the installation files?
Pave Low 16
No, it uses C (or where the O/S is installed if a dual boot system) try Manually running the clean up toolLaunch a DOS window (with admin privileges) Type compcln.exe, then hit return Type Y when you see "Would you like to continue?" and press Enter.WARNING: Running the Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Disk Clean-up tool permanently removes the ability to uninstall the Vista SP1 and SP2. Do not run this tool unless you have no plans of uninstalling the Vista SP1 or SP2 and just want to save or regain hard drive space. The only option to remove them after using this tool is to do a clean install of Vista.
