warhawk 0
Has anyone heard of any problems between DX 9.0a and Win98SE as was the case with DX 9.0 and Win98SE? Stout Hearts Warhawk
SOTOMac 0
I haven't heard of any Issues with the Installation of DX9.0a to a 98SE OS. Are You able to find any Issues when looking for them on the Internet Search engines ? Regards,
RooK 0
I just wonder how much MS actually has completed in this release Edited May 19, 2003 by RooK
warhawk 0
@SOTOMac Are You able to find any Issues when looking for them on the Internet Search engines ? Not yet but last time I installed DX 9.0 on this 98 machine I wound up reloading because of all the problems it caused. I wound prefer not to make the same mistake again. Hence why I asked here to see if anyone else has tried them yet. Stout Hearts Warhawk
Stinger 0
What do you mean by reloading? There is a tool I have to remove DX 9 and replace it with 8.1 again.
warhawk 0
You have a tool to remove items from the Windows Kernal? That's where part of the DX 9.0 install goes. Stout Hearts Warhawk
Specter 0
The problem with DX9.0 is it wasnt really written to fit with Win9x, or even W2k. It was written for XP and it's new PnP/HAL system. And, yes, this also was stated by MS, and various other sources. MS has got this stupid idea in their head that everyone wants to ar has upgraded to Xp, and it just isnt so. So they arent putting alot of energy into writing anything anymore with 9x or pre 9x compatibility in mind. Yes, it works with 2K just fine, but 9x users have had myriad problems with it. DX9.0a is supposed to overcome alot of this, but I havent heard alot about it yet, as most 9x users are weary to try it. As for the DX removal tool, it is a crapshoot, because it marries itself to the kernel. Yes, I have heard of it working fine. I have also heard that it doesnt work worth a darn. Whenever it comes to a major DX crash, I recommend an OS reload, thereby ensuring no corrupted files remaining anywhere. Generally, Joe Blow user doesnt want to mess around in the registry, or heaven forbid, debugging the OS, it is a simpler process just to format and reload, and more sure to work. Not everyone, even everyone here, knows enough, or even if they do, want to go trying the above mentioned. It's not worth it. Even alot of Net and Sys admins will just reload, because it is faster, and a whole lot less hassle. Edited May 20, 2003 by phantom110565
dekela 0
What sort of probs are people having with dx9 and 98se?? I am running 98se with dx9 at home and 98 with dx9 at work and haven't noticed any problems. Am I just lucky?
warhawk 0
Your lucky so far. I had nothing but major problems with it and GR. I couldn't get any drivers that were WHQL certified for my sound card. And I was having no end of sound problems on top of it. When I dropped back to 8.1 all my troubles went away. And the only way to drop back is to format and reload. Stout Hearts Warhawk
dekela 0
I've got intel onboard graphics and sound, both of which I updated drivers on before I installed dx9. Maybe thats why I don't have any probs.
