Aggressor 0
hello everyone, Well it has been an expensive day off work today . I just picked up a Palm M130 about an hour ago and its charging underneath my desk. The salesperson suggested that i get the extended warranty which will cover all manufacturer defects and wear and tear related issues for three years from the date of purchase. He told me stories about people who come in with flooded LCD displays, burned out backlight bulbs, and damaged screens, etc. He stated that he sees about three people a week with these problems Now my question is...are these handhelds reliable or not? it seems like a broad question i know. i plan to use the palm just for school stuff and in the hospital, nothing really major, and can it withstand a drop from a desk onto a carpeted floor? (not planning to drop it, but with me its always inevitable) Thanks Edited May 15, 2003 by Aggressor
Rocky 1,224
I'd venture to say that Salesman is talking rubbish. First of all, extended warrantys are not to be recommended, EVER. I am sorry if he persuaded you to buy one, but they are a waste of money. Reason being, if something goes wrong with your Palm, it will be apparent within the first few weeks or months - and you have a 12 month manufacturer warranty to cover you for that. Also, I can't recall if you are in the UK, but there is a new update to the Sales of Goods Act which means that if any goods develop a fault within the first 6 months, the fault will be deemed to have been present at the time of purchase, and unless the supplier can prove otherwise, you will be entitiled to a full refund or replacement - your choice. So, extended warranties are what Salesmen make money on, that is the only reason they are there. Now about the Palm, I have not checked (but if you run a search through Google I am sure you will find your answer), but I seriously doubt there is a manufacturing defect with those Palms, I find Palms extremely reliable. Rocky 1,224
Also... He said it would cover wear and tear? That's unusual.
_1G_HiLandR 0
I've had a hand-held for 5 years now. Never has it had one problem. It is a replacement, though, I must admit. After I had had it for about a year, some ######-hole stole it. I had the warranty, which meant nothing to them. I had to buy another. On the new one, I have had no problems, and expect none! Rocky 1,224
Oh, and if you did pay for the warranty, and have decided you do not want it, I think there is a cooling off period where you can change your mind. That's all
