I'm always more excited to hear news on mods like this than news on the newer games coming out. If only some triple AAA company would make an entire remake of ghost recon and maybe even Rainbow six 1 and 2. That would be a dream come true.

If you are going through the missions again, maybe try that graphics mod that was posted here recently, that's my plan....

BTW, Jeza is probably the most prolific gamer I know, you get through some games mate!!

Hello ApexMods!

I've been playing GR for several years and what got me into this awesome game was your mod. Actually, it introduced me to the realm of GR mods and I've had the best tactical shooter moments of my life with your mod and those mods. Keep up the good work! Your mod is so awesome that it deserves to be a totally new game! If only someone suddenly handed me a million dollars... I would definitely fund that new game. :D

Any updates on beta 9?

I'm back and have had more time to enjoy GR. looking forward to the next release!

Apex, you may remember i mentioned i thought HU AI wasn't aggressive enough. I had some problems with HU's AI in the past but after testing other mods it seems that the AI flaws are just as common in other mods. A few notable AI problems i ran across: enemies rarely go prone, they like to stand in the open and whoever has the faster reflexes wins, they rarely try to flank or close in on you, they like to run, literally run, making themselves easy targets, and they seem to hesitate when returning fire (you can actually have stare downs with the enemy at close range and they wont fire back) some groups will engage you while others nearby will stand there like nothing is happening. Since these issues seem common with all mods that tells me it might be a core problem. The only big improvement that i see fit is changing the enemies ROE in HU. it seems they are passive and reluctant to engage. Since the enemy is always on their home turf defending against attackers they should be more aggressive and willing to fend off attackers. Maybe that's just a simple ROE change. To sum it up the AI in HU seems fine. I'm sure some fine tuning here and there will only make it better.

I will say that Realism Update combined with Mission HX has been the most intense experience of GR I've ever had. The drawback of RU is that stealth goes out the window and its always guns blazing and casualties. It'd be awesome if you could implement a game type that is just balls to the wall like that but keep other game types centered around stealth.

A few other suggestions i have are:
- fix the zoom. rifleman/support/demo have way too much zoom power. Its extremely easy to pick off enemies at a far distance with an M4 and that's not realistic.
- For the support class the default weapon should be the M249 para. the full stock/barrel version of the M249 were pretty rare in infantry units let alone special forces circa 2008. It'd make sense for special forces to have the more compact version.
- Droopy's mod had an interesting change to the armor. it was a little extreme in that sometimes it'd take 5+ shots to kill or get killed. but the best part of it was it wounded guys but kept them alive. in real life its much more common to be wounded then killed. maybe find the right balance?
- I'm just throwing this one out there since i don't know who all gave you permission for their work but Kafee's sound pack would be a much better fit for the enemy weapons IMO. whatever flaws it has aside, the sounds are loud and intense. the way it makes incoming fire sound makes me want to take cover behind my desk. the current sounds in HU seem too flat and dull.
- not sure if this one can be fixed but I've noticed the character i'm playing as will announce that enemies are close before me the player notices. immersion killer. and yes i tested this without teammates lol.

- the middle eastern terrorist enemies seem really out of place. especially in the Russian maps, it may be accurate to have some middle eastern guys involved in the conflicts depicted in GR but having a Russian guerrilla side by side with a middle eastern terrorist dressed like he was in the middle east just seems odd. kind of an immersion killer.

- the return of the ribbons/medals in campaign mode. it was fun to try to keep all your guys alive to see all the ribbons they earned and medals they won.

- i may have mentioned this before, change the title screen background to a GR theme. the real life pictures seem out of place especially since they have no relation to the ghosts or the conflicts depicted.

- Black ops mode the "escort VIP","rescue POW", and "capture warlord" objectives seem to appear almost every game. While it's nice to have them every once and a while it gets old always having those objectives. not to mention its very common to have at least 2 of those objectives on the same mission. more of an annoyance than a challenge.

-One more,I've always disliked how on firefight mode there is never a firefight. There are 1-2 enemies placed in 30 or so random spots in a map and you have to hunt them all down. its more like cat and mouse than a firefight. The Xbox version fixed this and instead of random placement of single soldiers they placed random squads/fire teams that instead of stood around and waited, they actually patrolled and were on the hunt for you. as soon as contact broke every enemy on the map was trying to close in on you. a lot better than having to hunt down a single enemy in some corner. Maybe that's possible to implement?

I have to admit I'm worried HU might drift too far from the Original GR feel. Not it terms of core gameplay but mainly in terms of aesthetics and atmosphere. The visual changes (like some of my suggestions) and the modernization of certain things seem to take away that feeling I always got from GR. It could be just nostalgia.

hope i'm not being harsh, just wanted to throw in some thoughts. This is still one of the greatest mods I've had the pleasure of playing. The attention to detail is bar none. Always grateful for your work Apex.

edit: rewrote this after more play throughs and settled thoughts

another, and this ties in with the atmosphere thing. HU is very quiet compared to Vanilla or other mods. Meaning the overall volume, gunshots, and map ambiance. It seems many of maps on HU lack the background/ambiance sounds.

ie I was playing Villinus on vanilla and HU

Vanilla - the rain was very loud and there were the sounds of jets over head. it really set the mood.

HU - the rain was very quiet and i didnt hear the jet sounds or any other back ground noises.

Was there a reason behind this?

like zee said apex usually goes MIA for a while. he'll be back though it has been a while.

another observation i have, defend mode. The enemies only have one thing in mind and that's to get to the smoke, at all costs. meaning they literally sprint through anything just to get there making it almost target practice. They don't seem to come in waves either, just stragglers who think they can run through the ghosts literally. They also have super human accuracy that was common in the vanilla GR. I've only seen it be a problem on defend mode in HU though. And of course some of the defend locations make no sense on some maps. you'd think they'd be defending an LZ or an obvious terrain feature. I guess RSE thought random spots with no tactical value or approaches would suffice.

edit: i just thought of a suggestion. while the fight to the last man standing strategy can be fun, if you're going for realism then it'd make sense to be able to abort a mission to save lives. the ghosts represent highly trained special forces operatives who conduct missions behind enemy lines. meaning they are not supposed to be expendable. so say for any quick mission if the team takes more than 50% causalities or the demo man is killed or any other jeopardizing situation the main objectives should be aborted and changed to head to the extraction zone.

Alright, I started to play Ghost Recon like a month ago (yes, never touched it until 2015) and, after suffering to complete the campaign on recruit (I am that green, even with impressives amounts of skill with other Tom Clancy games, including R6) and the expansion packs, I decided to search for some mods. Found Heroes Unleashed and, after doing some cleaning in my hard drive to install it (R.I.P. SWAT 4), and played it (and getting blown away), I decided to do some feedback and give my opinion about the mod, so here we go:

1. That Intro is amazing, is that a trailer or you did it your self, because damn not even started the game and I already got a combat high (didn't got me as high as the R6: RvS intro, though)

2. I think there are way too many weapons. This is me trying to select a kit in mission 1: "Ok, I like the G36, but we may need 7.62mm rifles due to the range, but I also need a CQB weapon for the caves and an SMG won't cut it for the rest of the stage..... ######? The support guys have M82A1s"

3. The AI is still dumb, I have seen them being in front of the enemy, being fired upon and still don't react...... at times I want the bad guys to be on my side.

4. "Okay everybody cover that direction. !, why are you prone, wait a second" That was me when I discovered that all scoped weapons are set as sniper rifles, that is really necessary?

5. About the Ghost's Creed, in my opinion the part that says "I will be invisible, swift and silent" would fit better a Splinter Cell than a Ghost, because Splinter Cells specialize in infiltration and stealth and not combat, while the Ghosts specialize in covert ops, and are still part of the Army.

6. Also, that same phrase appears in R6 1 intro, guess it fits all Tom Clancy universe special forces.

7. "I am a member of my nation's chosen few" What are you, a Splinter Cell? There are less Splinter Cells than Ghosts so, maybe

8. The friendly Ai has trouble getting visual contact on the enemy NPCs from time to time, and that gets them killed. Maybe reduce the stealth skill from some enemies? maybe.

9. "In visual range" That's the first thing I heard when I started the Black Ops mode on the Chalet from R6: RS.

10. Also, why in the orange hell some mission names are from some R6 missions? The ones I recall are: Lion Shadow, Granite Cage, Omega Shadow, Sand Hammer and Lost Thunder.

11. I still hate the fact that Ghost Recon doesn't the "Incapacitaded" health state, I hate to see a 8-points-super-sneaky-sniper (which is the class I use the most) die after getting shot multple times on the arms and legs (yes, happens), you shouldn't die from that kind of wounds (most of the time)

12. Going back to the "too many weapons" issue, I'm not sure that the US Army has access to the VSS Vintorez (Rainbow has it but they are not exactly "US Army"), which is one of my favorite sniper rifles, only being beated by the PSG1 and the SSG3000, at least on R6: RvS, haven't tested them on HU, I don't even know is they are there.

13. No fast-rope descent from the choppers on insertion

14. "Sensor, what's going on? Sensor! SENSOOOOOOOOOOOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Really no sensors, they we're an important part of my strategies but now......

Now, some weapon request

1. HK MP7 as a primary weapon

2. The AW Covert

3. Some Benelli shotguns (M1014, Nova Pump...)

4. FN FNC

5. FN F2000

6. HK SL8

7. Some Sig Pistols

8. HK MP5/10 without the suppressor

9. FAMAS? Maybe

Okay, that was long but it's done. It's still the greatest mod for Ghost Recon, but if it wants to make me a fan of Ghost Recon, it has a lot of ground to cover, since Rainbow Six made it to my pc first. (I am a CQB specialist and a very good marksman, but long range assault is my weakness)

Good to see you picked up the game. As for the Ai you can command them from the menu and tell them to watch a certain area along with whether or not they can fire freely on targets they see. So I would look into those options.

As for too many weapons if you play the multiplayer settings you can select which type of weapons your team can carry (IE Delta Force Silenced Weapons, Navy Seal Weapons, No explosives etc) I would try that as well. It will not only limit the weapons but possiby make it even harder to play lol.

When it states "in visual range" you should be able to see someone and also they can see you. At this point I would be looking around. Alot of smaller missions will do that because realistically you are in very close proximity to the enemy.

As for Sensors... real men don't use sensors lol and you have the Threat Indicator greenhorn :)

And you can't complain there's too many weapons and then request 10 more lmao.

Which I think some of those are actually there. I think Shotguns are listed under the demo class if i'm not mistaken and you can switch weapons anytime by hitting the tilde key.

Also if you want only those weapons you can write a weapons restriction yourself and make it exactly how you want, and who can carry them.

Anyways welcome and i hope you enjoy the game.

Thanks for the response there twcrash, I'm enjoying the game, I didn't had that big of a challenge since Rogue Spear. I'm not planning to touch the multiplayer button just yet, unless I want to see my personal army, filled with Jose21crisis (which is always kind of funny).

However, I do know about the command map and moving the AI around and switch RoE but Combat and Movement, I'm not that dumb.... most of the time. That said I don't think I like too much the "Advance at all costs" Movement RoE since (at least on my experience), when it says "at all costs" it means ignoring anything not in front of you (even on suppress).

The sensors..... I'm still too bond to (how I like to call them) "situational awareness devices" like Rainbow Six HeartBeat Sensor, SWAT 4 OptiWand or.... well, Ghost Recon Sensor.

I know that there are shotguns, but what I find weird is that they are a secondary weapons, either that or my operator has two primary weapons. And yes, I know switch weapons, I didn't completed the campaign running inside buildings with the M24 drawn.

As for the "in visual range", I found it weird simply because my character was the one that talked, and that I wasn't on Recon RoE (my first reaction was to check if I was on Recon RoE).

I like this game like, well anybody else in this forum (is not called GhostRecon.net without a reason), but usually when I play singleplayer I would like the AI to play as the experienced operators that they are, which is where RavenShield and SWAT 4 beat Ghost Recon. Yes, the Ghost usually (like 75% of the time) do their jobs without getting killed but on the other part they get killed in really REALLY dumb ways, e.g. getting killed while being at 1 cm from the enemy.

RavenShield AI usually fires the second it sees an enemy, but their RoE don't work, they are usually stuck on "assault", and while they get killed at 1 cm from the enemy it usually happens when the enemy uses the "light-speed-sidestep-into-spray-and-pray" technique.

SWAT 4 AI is without a doubt the best AI I have seen, when you say "cover that", they cover that.... until an enemy appears. When you say, throw a gas grenade and clear the room, they stack up and do the action. When you say, on my order both teams open, bang and clear.... well, you get the point. Also, they have individual voices so they aren't just clones like Rainbow Six AIs or the Ghosts AI (voices, not faces). I also have seen them cover each other, but that's other story.

I'm not saying that I hate Ghost Recon AI, I'm just saying that they aren't as combat effective as other Ais. They have saved my ass multiple times though.

Fantastic that you are finding the joy of Ghost Recon even at this stage, Heroes Unleashed is awesome, remember there are 30Gb of other mods that you should check out, starting with the full conversion or custom campaign sections, some really awesome Ghost Recon missions in there.

Also im with Jeza, if you remove RVS off your system we curse you and your next 100 generations!!!! lmao

Also if you can pick up the USB set from Rocky it is one of the best investments i have made for gaming. I know you can download 99% of all of it but it is nice to have t all in one place and not have to worry as to which DVD or cd or usb drive you downloaded that specific mod/mission to.
