If it doesn't load at all, make sure that your Heroes Unleashed download is uncorrupted (watch for error messages during or after extraction). To unpack the 7z file I recommend using the original 7-zip (https://www.7-zip.org), as that works best (e.g. WinRAR and other utilities often have problems extracting files that have been created with the latest customized maximum compression settings). If 7-zip reports any errors during extraction, you will have to download Heroes Unleashed again. For HU beta 9, the 7-zip file is 6,719,176,703 bytes (6.26 GB) in size, the extracted/installed Heroes Unleashed folder weighs 16,545,652,736 bytes (15.41 GB). ok i got it to work now by just waiting like 1 min after clicking on it, is that normal that it takes that long? ApexMods
Depends on your hardware specs / how fast your computer is, e.g. hard drive, CPU, etc. The mod is quite big, and e.g. a fast SSD does wonders for loading time.

Your system is more than adequate for GR:HU and should launch the game quickly enough. Just timed it roughly. On my little MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017), 1,3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1867 MHz LPDDR3, Intel HD Graphics 615 1536 MB, the game launches in just under 2 minutes with the new HU 1.0 installed. Admittedly, the new version is twice as large as HU b9, and I'm running GR inside a virtual machine (Wineskin), so that probably slows it down a bit, but keep in mind that HU contains about 140,000 files that are indexed by the game upon launch. So yes, some patience is required.

ApexMods
Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed 1.0.0 Quote PRESS RELEASE GHOST RECON: HEROES UNLEASHED 1.0.0 THE WORLD WIDE WEB -- Friday, April 13th, 2018 -- ApexMods announce the release of Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed, the ruthlessly unforgiving tactical shooter based on Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. After nearly two decades of one-man development and nine previous betas, the full version 1.0 of this hardcore tactical realism modification is available today, as free download for Mac and PC. Although Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon is still going strong with the open-world Wildlands, it’s the 2001 first entry in the series that many still consider the best tactical shooter. Following up on the genre-establishing Rainbow Six which focused on urban close quarters combat, Ghost Recon refined the tactical realism concept and carried its torch outdoors, into the wide open environments of military battlefields that promoted real-time planning and cautious execution. The Heroes Unleashed mod is raising the bar even further by taking the game's immersive realism and addictive replayability to unprecedented new heights. Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed offers a ruthlessly unforgiving tactical FPS experience by maximizing realism in every aspect of the game. Weapons match their real-life counterparts in accuracy, effectiveness, and handling. AI displays terrifying acumen in trying to outmaneuver you. Missions take place in open-world locations and are entirely nonlinear, with a minimum of scripted events and utmost randomization, for infinite replayability. The mod pushes tactical realism to the extreme, setting it light years apart from anything you are accustomed to in today’s ubiquitous action shooters. One shot can kill. There is no magical healing, fantasy gear, sci-fi enemy markers, handholding, or guide towards certain victory. It is just you and your squad, on your own behind enemy lines, with caution as your best bet to survive. Whether you choose to play online or alone, with friends or AI, Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed delivers a rivetingly realistic squad-based military combat you won’t find anywhere else. Since initial launch, the popular Heroes Unleashed mod has matured immensely, now weighing in at just under 30 GB installed (about 10 GB to download). In addition to its rejuvenating audio-visual makeover for the classic original game, its impressive catalog of hardcore realism enhancements, and a host of new features, the latest release of this monumental opus offers 300 maps and missions, an arsenal of more than 400 weapons and equipment items, 100+ vehicles, over 1,000 character models, and in excess of 100 single and multiplayer game types. Hundreds of thousands of mod downloads and an avid online multiplayer community are an impressive testament to the lasting appeal of original Ghost Recon from 2001, the legendary "thinking man's shooter" generally credited with defining the squad-based military tactical FPS genre and widely considered to be one of the best tactical shooters ever created. Quote RELEASE NOTES GHOST RECON: HEROES UNLEASHED 1.0.0 Almost ten years after the mod’s initial public beta, and the better part of two decades of development, I’m happy to at last present you with the full (non-beta) release of Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed. In view of severe development time constraints due to other work/life obligations, tracking down and eliminating bugs and stability issues, as well as finalizing the organization of file and folder structures was my primary concern for this development stage. To finally take the mod out of its prolonged beta phase, I focussed mainly on fixing important things "under the hood" rather than adding new content, and while I still could not resist to sneak in a couple of new things here and there, I decided to postpone any further feature expansion until future point release updates. A modder's work is never done... ;-) Once again, I’d like to thank the amazing GhostRecon.net community for their unwavering support. You folks keep me going in this seemingly never-ending endeavor, and without your feedback and suggestions, your rigorous testing, as well as your ongoing development of bug fixes, improvements, and add-ons for both the game and its mods, neither our beloved Ghost Recon nor Heroes Unleashed would be what they are today. Here’s especially looking at you, Wombat50 and AlexKimov! Huge thanks to both of you, for invaluable help in fixing a boatload of map model and texture properties tagging issues (e.g. AI transparency)! As Alex and others are creating new mod tools like texture and 3D model plugins for modern development software, laying the groundwork for a full SDK, the future looks brighter than ever for modding original Ghost Recon. There is a huge amount of new stuff I’d like to add/implement in future updates, but for now I hope this full release of Heroes Unleashed will allow you to recapture that unparalleled original Ghost Recon feeling and enjoy the true spirit of unfettered tactical realism. ApexMods
Thanks, folks. Glad to finally reach 1.0... we're now officially out of beta! Yeah! Decided to go live early because of... reasons. Another little heads-up: There's now a demo version of Heroes Unleashed available for download. As a compact introduction to Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed, e.g. for people with limited download bandwidth or data caps, the demo with reduced content (1.70 GB download, 5.72 GB install) is intended to give you a first impression of gameplay and features. Also, HU 1.0 no longer requires Desert Siege or Island Thunder to be installed. It's still fully compatible with both, but there are now compatibility add-ons included that can you install if you want to play the mod without the official expansions. Please see the included manual or quick start guide for details.
