Introduction

Band of Brothers supplies exactly what many fans have been asking for, to replay the Ghost Recon campaign against the ghosts, not with them! Although this has been done behind closed doors, this is the first time such a mission has been released publically - and how sweet it is.

The Missions

If you'll recall, in mission 1 the Ghosts assault a tent camp, and attempt to capture Papa from the caves. In BoB mission 1, you must protect the camp from Ghost invasion, and also protect Papa from the advancing ghosts.

Because these objectives are placed at opposite ends of the map, the player is forced to make use of the Command Map and send either send a party to the caves, or leave on at the camp on defend, while the player takes the other objective. This forces players to attempt proper control of their squads, rather than going flat out with only one specialist!

Once the teams are in position however, you'll probably find yourself frantically switching between teams to assist in the battle against the Ghosts. The main challenge is at the caves, 3 times I had a 3 man troop

gaurding the cave entrances, and each time the Ghosts still manages to infiltrate and give Papa a fright! This mission therefor offers quite a challenge, for me, one of the most challenging missions so far in Jack57's campaigns. Great stuff!

Once the mission is succesfully complete, Papa joins the team as a Specialist.

Did I mention the first mission was pretty tough? Fasten your seatbelts for mission 2! Completing the mission isn't going to be overly difficult, but completeing all four objectives is a different story!

Once again the mission starts with Jack57's trademark atmospheric immersion factor (as I called it). Rather than simply describing a downed aircraft in the pre-mission briefing (as in original missions) Jack57 has the mission start with a prescripted sequence that has your team down the aircraft, complete with congratutory exclamations from the succesful shooter, cool stuff.

At this stage of course we are still getting used to not shooting Georgians on sight, as they patrol the area. It's those sneaky Ghosts we have to watch out for, and very sneaky they are too. I caught a 3 man troop sneaking into the North section of the map, from outside the playable area! For me, that's

a nice indicator of the amount of thought that goes into the mission scripting, as it is a nice effort to reduce Ghost spawning during the missions, which always ruins the atmosphere.

Scripting

This is Jack's third major Campaign release, and you can tell an experienced modder has put this Campaign together. As mentioned already, attention to detail such as avoiding enemy spawning within sight, are obvious signs of a well put together mod. But there is more going on behind the scenes than the casual player may notice - this is a well crafted series of mission scripts.

Conclusion

While I have only described the first two missions in any detail, the surprises and neat touches just keep coming in the later missions, so make sure you see this one through to the end!

Full campaigns modded by fans are not exactly thick on the ground, so it's a real treat to find professional standard fan scripted mods like this available to extend the lifetime of Ghost Recon.

Final Score 9.5/10

Fan Feedback

"This was brilliant, ive never seen such scripting, hillarious, clever... I was not expecting such a great mod, and i wanted to personaly say, im very impressed, and your very tallented."

The computer AI makes the ghost really good and hard to fight. I wish the ghost were that good under the regular game controls. I really enjoyed this mod and am hopping he will continue his band of brothers through the other two mission packs.

Thankyou all for your kind comments! - it always puts 'gas in my tank' to hear people are enjoying my mods.

and am hoping he will continue his band of brothers through the other two mission packs.

Well, i'd just like to tell you that you are now my other hero in GR modding, along with Earl who made spetsgruppa vympel. Band of Brothers is just so amazingly good, well it's just mind boggling!

My fav mission must have been M05 i think (where you storm the bank and the embassy). Also all the other missions where you have other friendlies with you, that kicks ######! I playd thru your mod with Spetsgruppa Vympel enabled, and it was really enjoyable. I hope that you will atleast consider using spetsgruppa vympel in you future campaigns (Chechnya campaign, anyone?).

Keep it up!

Try Ghost-Recon.de

I don't want to be rude and link direct to the file, but even though the site is in German if you scroll down the page you will see the link.

If you don't have any luck there, mail or PM me and I'll send it to you.

Cheers, Jack :)

Thanks Copenhagen

If you like BoB keep your eyes open for "Brothers in Arms" - Panamanian Rebels against the Ghosts and PDF. Missions are about half done and Giwex is already hard at work testing. I will post news when I get closer to release.

A new Jack57 campaign?

Oh yeaah!

Are you the Panamanian (what a word :wall: ) rebels?

Off topic: Why are so many of your campaigns in South America?

Panamanian is quite a mouthfull, agreed! Yes you play as a rebel, but this time the emphasis is more on harassing the enemy (ie: being a right royal pain in the proverbial) as opposed to them coming after you so much.

Hmm, no real compelling reason. I have spent a fair bit of time in Latin America and I suppose coups and rebellions etc., are par for the course in a lot of countries there.

If I get around to doing a reversal for DS it will probably be set in Africa though, but then again . . .

Oh.

I am a pain in the proverbial so this is up my ally.
