Tinker
I have a pc with a ASUS PSN-MX Motherboard and 2 x 2GB DDR2 DIMM RAM I am only showing 2 GB of RAM in use. I think I can only have 3GB with XP? If so, how do I change the system from 2 to 3?
Rocky
You shouldn't need to change anything, RAM is plus and play. Sounds like one of your sticks is defective. What I'd do is remove one of then and reboot. If everything is okay, you know the one in the PC is fine. Switch off and take that RAM out and put the other one, reboot. If boot fails, you found a defective stick. If it boots on each individual stick of RAM, I'd be a bit lost lol. *unless XP will only recognise a 2Gb + 1 Gb stick....? Tinker
Both work independently at 1.87GB. But when I plugged both back in, now it registers at 3.12GB. Strange. Problem solved. Oh well

firefly2442
Yeah, I have the same issue. It's because of the 32 bit operating system. With your hard drive, do you have the latest service packs installed? I remember trying to do a clean reinstall using an older service pack of Windows XP and it didn't recognize the entire hard drive on install. I had to slipstream a disc. davros
I also have a New HD @ 250gb but XP only reads 127gb Correct Firefly. This was fixed in XP Service Pack 2. Install this and all should be ok. Not sure why you would not have it already...perhaps not a genuine xp Otherwise, you've got alot of updates to download!! Halli~SPARTA~
It's legal it came with my gateway 500 desktop which I upgraded and built a new system 3 years ago and used my old OS disc and now have upgraded again with the disc . I am running SP3 after loading OS sp1, but As Viiiper explained to me when you load the OS you load vanilla then load the sevice packs so it will not change without loading a Sp2 os or above. Now Im sure there are some kind of partition tricks but I am not very savy at that stuff.......Ach Weel Edited November 26, 2008 by Halli~SPARTA~
firefly2442
Well, what you can do is slipstream the latest service packs overtop of your install CD and then burn a new CD. This way, when you install it will already have the latest service pack (plus better driver support and such).
ROCO*AFZ*
Um... if you actually want to utilize that extra gb of ram (use 3gb) you should use the 3gb switch. http://www.vfxpedia.com/index.php?title=FAQ/3GB_Switch just a heads up.
