Foxtrot360
So I play games and sometimes the computer just freezes ingame with artifacts going all down the screen but the sound continues to play normally for around 3-10 seconds and then it stops (or loops, I forgot) and then the monitor goes into standby or either the PC reboots (I think the monitor goes into standby but I cant remember for sure). I have a GeForce 7600GT 256mb AGP the rest of the specs are ASUS A7N8X-E Motherboard Corsair 1 GB RAM AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2GHz x3 IDE HDD DVD/CD Burner Drive Corsair 450w PSU Apevia X-Pleasure PC Case w/ x2 120mm Rear/Side Outtake x2 80mm Front Intake What I've tried a while ago was reseating the video card and I think I cleaned out the case. I also think I reseated RAM and ran stress programs (not sure about that part). Otherwise it was fine for a while (I think) but now it does it. It looks like it does it regardless of the game I'm playing whether its intense or not intense or new or old, but it never does it in Windows only while in-game. DXDiag says the video driver version is 6.14 . I also get a BSOD sometimes referencing nv4_disp.dll IIRC (might be wrong) or Bugcode USB Driver. firefly2442
You could try grabbing the latest video drivers. Also, make sure the card isn't overheating. Are you running v-sync in your games? Sometimes this leads to a higher chance of video tearing in games IIRC.
Buehgler_AS
I had similar issues when I started playing ArmA 18+ months ago using a PCI-E GeForce 7900. After improving the cooling on my video card and slowing down my RAM to run a bit below its rated speed, and re-seating just about everything in my machine the problems went away. But I never saw the problem in any other game. My presumption was always that it was related to heat problems on the graphics memory, but I could not really confirm that. It also seemed clear to me that some feature of the way ArmA is built really pushes this issue, since I have heard other people complain about it as well. Foxtrot360
I might try getting new drivers but thing is this happened later and not from the begining. I also considered overheating but with all the fans running fine I dont really see why that would be the case.
Foxtrot360
I'm still getting the errors posted above, Despite reseating, de-dusting, and messing with USB devices I still dont know whats causing it. I didnt narrow it down that much but I did do a driver update and really I think I have a hardware issue that will probably only be resolved whenever I do my next upgrade/overhaul. I'm just guessing its a Video or Memory/RAM related problem, but I dont have anything to test with (Which means no swapping out sticks, I could try running Memtest but thats it), also since I got a BSOD after Defrag once before, I really am leaning towards Memory. Then again I dont think I completely ruled out software although I dont think theres anything I can recall installing/changing that would result in these problems. So far I've encountered: Lockup with graphics corruption and looping audio (Only in games) BSOD referencing nv4_disp.dll (Obviously references the Nvidia display driver) BSOD referencing USB_BUGCODE_DRIVER (I thought it might be the USB gamepad thats plugged in most of the time but even after disconnecting that I think there was an error, I thought something might be pulling alot of power when in combination with other devices, but the only other devices are USB headphones and USB mouse) BSOD referencing PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (Sounds like a memory problem to me) Edited December 30, 2008 by Foxtrot360
wombat50
I haven't reviewed the topic but do you have your vid card on a seperate rail or does it share a rail with another device like the HHD? When I upgraded to a new mobo and vid card I diligently followed the instructions on how to connect the vid card to the PW. The vid card came with a special dongle that shared the rail with the HHD. That worked fine for maybe a month but then I got the BSOD. Someone suggested I put the vid card on a seperate rail and that solved my problem. Halli~SPARTA~
So I play games and sometimes the computer just freezes ingame with artifacts I have a GeForce 7600GT 256mb AGP the rest of the specs are ASUS A7N8X-E Motherboard Corsair 1 GB RAM AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2GHz x3 IDE HDD DVD/CD Burner Drive Corsair 450w PSU Apevia X-Pleasure PC Case w/ x2 120mm Rear/Side Outtake x2 80mm Front Intake To be honest 1 Gb of ram is just not enough and 256 for Gpu is also under specs. Add another Gig of Cpu ram and see if you can find an ATi x1950pro 512 agp as the cost is not that high and it will get you going untill you upgrade the System. Untill then Increase the page file and Make sure to run the games sound options under software and not hardware regardless of what Sound card you have. Good Luck And Happy New Year...... Foxtrot360
Not really "not enough", I dont play many high-intensity games, really I'm starting to care less and less because honestly theres not really many games that I'm looking forward too/that have been released lately that I thought were worth buying. You are right, I do need to upgrade, but I dont think its a issue with outdated hardware, that would just be slowdowns and maybe a crash every now and then on games that require alot of system power. So far my problems happen in many games, not just the ones that may require more than my system to funtion correctly. But thanks anyway, and Happy New Year. Also, wombat, I think my video is on its own, I think I did that when I first assembled it. The funny thing about this issue is it seems to have just came out of nowhere. NoQuarter
Have you checked the ASUS forums to check whether or not it is related to your MoBo and if so gone to their Support site to check for an updated BIOS -scan the changelog notes for anything that sounds familiar- and then consider flashing it if necessary? Foxtrot360
I think its already flashed to the latest, IIRC I checked not long after installing it. I didnt check the ASUS forum though Happy New Year.
