ROCO*AFZ*
If you think it is the switch, unplug it from the mainboard and use a small screwdriver to start it up. (Short the 2 pins) If it powers off that night on it's own, then it's not the switch. Note you can shut it down properly in windows if it stays up. Sorry, are we talking the front panel on/off switch here? Here's an updated sitrep: Yesterday, as I stated already, it started up properly with full power for the first time in 3 days. Before that, nothing would happend when I pressed the on/off switch no matter what I did. I tested shutting down fully and restarting, where I'd have to press the on/off button again, and it powered up fine everytime. The PSU did not get extremely hot after several hours of non-gaming (as I said already too), but it did get hotter while I was gaming. This temperature could not be defined as 'extreme' though as I could leave my fingers resting on the back the PSU without getting burnt. After gaming, I was browsing the 'net and listening to music. Then I lost the power to the rig around midnight. The PSU was not extremely hot. I pressed the on/off button to power it back up and it powered up straight away and power stayed stable until I later shut it down fully to test it again. Then press the on/off button again and powers up fine first time again. So then I shut it down fully, went to bed, woke up this morning, pressed the on/off button - powered up fine first time and power remains stable. And no I have not installed the new PSU yet. Thanks for all the help so far people. Edited September 29, 2008 by WytchDokta
WytchDokta
Alright. New PSU installed and all is well.... So far. The thing is though, now when I shutdown, I hear a very short whistle sound. This never used to happen with the old PSU. The sound occurs right at the end of the shutdown sequence, just as everything switches off. Edited September 30, 2008 by WytchDokta

WytchDokta
Okay, no loss of power to report yet since installation of new PSU. Then again, it is early days yet and I haven't really used my rig much since installing the new PSU. One thing for sure though, it has powered up first time every time I pressed the on/off button on the front panel. So hopefully, the problem is fixed now.
