Rocky
My XP Pro did an auto update and installed SP3 yesterday, now after every boot I get a New Hardware Found pop up, for "audio device on high definition bus audio bus". In System>Hardware there's a yellow exclamation against that entry. I've googled quite a bit, found some sort of unofficial "fix" that involved downloading a zip file and pointing the driver wizard to it, but that didn't work. Anyone got any clue how to resolve this annoyance since SP3 installed? Asus P5B mobo and Audigy soundcard.
GreyHaired
Do you have a video card with hdmi support? If so you can just disable the audio hardware in device manager.

CR6
Hmm, I have a Audigy on a ASUS mobo with XP updated to SP3 and no probs. Does your Audigy have a Firewire input? Is the driver for that installed? I would suggest in Device Manager, let Windows automatically search for the driver on the internet. I've found this actually works quite well, or that the driver eventually shows up in your Windows update Honestly, if you find your computer is working fine without that driver, then I'd just ignore it for now. My Q6600 with Vista has some "SM Bus Controller" not installed, and my computer does everything I want it to do so I've just left it. Rocky
Yes it does have a FW port, but I tried letting windows find the driver and it failed to. Sound seems to be working as normal so it wouldn;t bother me so much if it wasn;t for that dang "Found New Hardware" popup at ever boot. I think in my case, I "may" have not installed all the Creative crapware...and it did just that...crap everywhere. I uninstalled and ran DriveCleaner (free version) and reinstalled it. but couple things we dont have same: vidcard----mine is eVGA 88000 GTX mobo------mine is an aBit IP35PRO....I'll ask around different PC forums...I'll be at work for 8hrs or so, I'll be popping in & out. wait till everyone suggest more ideas....mine is kinda drastic. two other places I visit frequently [H]ardforum Audio thread XtremeSystems Audio thread
GreyHaired
I have a similar issue with an ATI HD 3850. In Control Panel - Sounds & Devices, under the "audio" tab is now an extra option: "ATI HD audio rear output" HDMI transfers sound and graphics through one cable, so using an HDMI cable, you can get HD audio through HD monitor speakers, The HD audio driver is missing though. Maybe one like this will help: http://www.downloadsource.net/147/Creative...-2-Audigy-2-ZS/ I'm on thin ice here but I think that's the issue. sktrbssmn
ran into the same issue when wife didnt know one of the updates was sp3. we finally just let the hardware wizard try to find the drivers, and when it couldn't we canceled the wizard and haven't had the found new hardware message come up again. haven't noticed any issues at all. You probably are not getting the message aymore because the remind tick box was selected when you closed the wizard. I've just spent another 30 mins searching for a solution with no luck. @ GreyHaired, thanks for the tip, no joy though.
CR6
Sound seems to be working as normal so it wouldn;t bother me so much if it wasn;t for that dang "Found New Hardware" popup at ever boot. Hmm, that would bug me too having it pop up everytime you boot up. You should be able to disable that "Found New Hardware" thing - I think go to Device Manager and right click on the device to disable it. Meanwhile I found this interesting forum site. Assuming what goes for Realtek also goes for SB Audigy, I'll check after work today, if the second last post works for my system. http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/showpo...=0&pageid=1 EDIT: I disabled "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio" in Device Manager - System Devices. I had two of those entries, disabled both of them and as if by magic, the unknown device had disappeared. I enabled them again and the device with the warning popped up. That was just to check if things can really simply disappear and reappear. In Windows they can ;-)) Now the device has disappeared again... Rocky
Nice find Grey, don't know why that forum never came up in my searches. I have made a post on it anyway, hopefully the guy that helped with the realtek issue can also help me.

If i remember right, uninstall the bus... then load your drivers... it will put the correct one in. Had this happen once with a client. Rocky
I got a reply on that forum GH linked. VEN 11D4 DEV 1988 is a "SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio", probably on your motherboard. It's nothing to do with the Audigy card. That prompted me to look in the BIOS. In the onboard section there was a High Definition Sound entry ENABLED. I disabled it, and no more HW found pop up. This might be a daft question, but what did I just disable? Sound is still working
GreyHaired
You disabled the onboard sound/hd audio. Your SB card delivers the sound and Creative has its own HD audio drivers for your card in case you wanna go that way. Good you solved it. CR6
LOL, glad it was as simple as that. I should have realized it was your onboard sound, since all current mobos come with "HD audio", but for some reason I thought it was a Creative thing. Yes, it's important to turn off any onboard video/audio in the BIOS if you are using a discrete graphics/audio card. Your onboard audio driver was probably installed with your motherboard drivers before you installed SP3, so it didn't pop up then.
GreyHaired
Thanks GH, that was a great forum you found! Ah, lucky punch speaking of audio - I found this freeware. It converts practically everything vice versa and when you open the program, you can also click a video tab. The program will download and install video converter software. Converted avi to mpeg-4 and that worked smoothly. On installation, it also installs some "telephony related programs" - pops up with its own link in the start menu. http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html
