RSB: g:\games\ghost recon\mods\origmiss\textures\gr\ice_rebel_head_4ver_blink.rsb, cannot generate mip maps for non-power of two image.

All images in that folder *ARE* of sizes which are powers of two (256*128 mostly). With my old Savege4 this never used to happen.

Now with my GF2MX 400 64MB (64-bit)....it happens almost all the time. Sometime I fool around with the regitry settings and Rivatuner and it works for a few games. But after that I'm back to square one.

A "fix" is to diable Mipmap textures in the options menu under graphics. but that makes the game look strange and very "grainy"..not to mention very slow (1/2 in some maps).

Any ideas? I used many drivers (41.09, 43.45, 30.82)...nothing.

Now under WinXP or Win2K it works just fine.

What's up?

What version of directx are you using in 98se, and you might try the nvidia 21.83 drivers. They seem to work the best in 98.

Also, you might want to eliminate the Rivatuner, whatever that is, and just load the nvidia drivers clean. I ran GR on a P3 500 for a year with a 64MB GF2 MX400 and never had a problem. With 98se I ran it with directx 8.1 and nvidia 21.83 drivers. You may have remnants of your old video driver left, and causing conflicts.

Thanks for your reply...

I'm running DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0881) in Win98SE.

I can't find the 21.83 drivers on the net (could you please find a link for me if possible, I'd be very thankful)

At this very moment I'm running the 30.82 WHQL drivers.

Old drivers are out. I practically wrote the Savage4's inf...I cleared out all the files and all the registry entries.

On another note....the card (GF2MX) runs all my other games just fine and is very stable. This error I get in GR is really getting to me. Is there any way I could force GR to use a certain type of mipmaping?

Do You have Norton Utilites or Norton SystemWorks ?

Regards,

Nope...

The Win98SE installaiton I'm using is a totally clean install, nothing is installed on it except WinZip. I use this installation only for games (memory is free from bootup).

Hehe...

http://www.abitboy.com/betawin9x.htm

Scroll down the Page to the 21.XX Versions located in the Middle of that Linked Page.

Sincerely,

WOW!

Thanks alot....this is the kind of thing I was looking for.

This is a neat page....like a detonator database...but for the actual drivers not the benchmark comparisons.

Thanks again SOTOMac...I'll give the 21.83 driver a try and see what's up. Then I'll let you know.
