kyuss 0
With five people playing on our LAN, the game slows down very significantly every time someone shoots. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks Patrick
Specter 0
What are the sytem specs on the machine serving the game, and what speed and kind of Network equipment do you have?
kyuss 0
I am hosting and playing on a G4 350MHz with 512MB RAM over 100MBit ethernet. The thing is, if I am playing sp there can be an enormous firefight with 5-10 units involved, without this problem occuring. In a multiplayer game with five people, all it takes to create a short freeze(~1/6 second) is a single shot from one person. More shooting = more freezes and jerkiness. I am thinking maybe there is some problem with loading the weapon fire sound.
WhiteKnight77 1
What kind of sound card do you have if any? What about the rest of the computers on the network?
Specter 0
Im sorry Im not up on Macs, so I wont be much help there, but this sounds like a network transmission problem. As far as the Mac goes, have you tried ripping and reinstalling the TCP/IP stack? Have you tried moving around the different ports on the router, or disconnecting a computer at a time to see if it is one particular machine causing the issue? If it works fine in SP, then you have what sounds like some sort of transmission problem which means a network component or maybe the PC's dont like the Mac being in the mix. Has the Mac always been in the mix? Is this something that just started happening? Has anything on your network changed? Is your router just a router, or does it have a built in switch? If not, that may be the problem, given the differences in hardware and tcp/ip stacks. Have you tried hosting it on one of the PC's, (not the Mac) and then joining with the Mac to see if the Mac just isnt enough machine to serve a 5 PC game? Thats also very probable. Host it on one of the more powerful PC's and then join with the Mac. The Mac may not be enough to handle a server load. Edited May 12, 2003 by phantom110565
