Crazy iPod

Crazy little iTunes/iPod problem I'm having here. A google search yields no information on this specific problem.

I'm chillin, listening to music, when I decide I need to update my iPod (Nano, no idea what Gen - bought it new in fall of 2006). Anyway, I hook up my iPod, and iTunes keeps playing (at least until the current song ends) but the seek bar stops moving and iTunes doesn't respond. I let it sit for a minute or two, give up, and then disconnect my iPod. As soon as I do, iTunes recognizes the iPod, but then gives a syncing error saying it can't find the file. Oh, my PC recognizes the iPod and I am able to open it in My Computer.

I haven't hooked up my iPod in probably a month or so (it stays in the Jeep for driving tunes really). So this is a new one.

Any ideas?
