Dual Monitors

Dudes... this rocks.

This is your Public Service Announcement brought to you by Ruin for the month. Enjoy.

Seriously though, I just got custody of my old 17" Westinghouse flat-panel back. Set it up along side my 22" WS Samsung 226BW... woah, this is fun. Have two different backgrounds, running iTunes and other junk on the right, and web-browsing/PS on the left. Very nice indeed.

If you've ever thought about it... do it. Get a cheapo monitor for the extraneous stuff on one side, and use your good monitor for the rest on the other side. Awesome.

Pics later... still going through these pics from yesterday! Over 320 in about 2.5 hours!

Doing the same thing, except I use my 32" TV as my main monitor and a my 20.1" as the secondary. It's pretty nice to have X-Fire, Ventrillo, and some temp monitors on one screen while I'm playing ArmA on the other.

I haven't tried running a FS game yet. I'm going to try CoD4 (seeing as it's been a while since I've played) paired with iTunes (gotta have good music while you shoot). It'll be interesting to see.

Just got to be careful doing it though...I've nearly messed up my second monitor here but being an idiot! :wall:

Totally forgot about the fact that if you only are using one of the 2 displays the second one will happily sit there displaying the desktop background = burned in the high contrast bits of the background into the monitor.

Luckily it was faint and reversible...using a pixel cycler and keeping the screen off for a few days has solved it.

But now I keep the second screen off untill the times that I need it, as in when I do 3d/2d work.

Burnin would not be fun to discover. Glad you could recover it. Got to love having multiple monitors...I have a few on the desk (and 3 PC's going via various KVM's)...can work on a few things at once then.

Perhaps put a fishtank screen saver on your spare one :)

Then you can chill while you work.

At my work, there are a load of surplus 17" lcd's and walking past one of the ofices the other day I saw someone had taken the time to create a fake fishtank out of light blue folders and cut out a space for an LCD playing fishtank screensaver...looked rather cool.

Dav.
