ROCO*AFZ* 0
How cheap? Look around for an asus P5B Single PCI EXPRESS Will support all the way to quad core Video is not intergrated. Our cost here is around 100$ US http://computers.pricegrabber.com/motherbo...oduct/sv=title/ We use these for business PC's but they also kick some butt in gaming with a single GPU. Cpl Ledanek 247
happy so far with abit IP35 PRO my drama documented here
Rocky 1,224
It was actually the Asus P5B I had pencilled in, I just wondered if there was anyting a little cheaper, but I'll stick with it now. Looks like I can build this guy a decent PC, c/w XP OS, but no monitor, for just under £300. It'll play some games, but it's more fast processing for videos, and internet he'll be doing, so £300 is a pretty good rig and nice price for him. Put the quickfind code into ebuyer.com if yu are interested to look further.. And I need to check if that RAM is compat with the P5B.
Dannik 43
And I need to check if that RAM is compat with the P5B. Yes, at least by the numbers, and Kingston is generally solid stuff.
ROCO*AFZ* 0
Hey Rocky.. go for the 8400GS instead. Little more power for the buck and even cheaper then the 7300GS or at the same price. Here is the one we use at work... http://computers.pricegrabber.com/video-ca...oduct/sv=title/ Granted it's not a super gamer nor is the 7300GS but it is one step up in the same price range. Forrester 0
Oh and Rocky, why a 80gig 5400 rpm hdd??? for video editing I'd suggest 2x 500 gig in raid 0/1/1-stripe at least. 5400rpm will slow the whole rig down tremendously, and hdd's are cheap these days.... firefly2442 0
Yeah, why the laptop HD? The SATA 300 drives are really cheap now.
Rocky 1,224
Yeah, why the laptop HD? The SATA 300 drives are really cheap now. LMAO! Well spotted! Good job I never went ahead and ordered the bits yet!
CR6 0
Rocky, I had a friend who just put together a system with a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard (about Cdn$100). The board has solid-state capacitors (so they won't burst and leak) and a great value. Apparently it's got a lot of great reviews at overclocker sites, and my friend was able to get his E8400 up to 4GHz I actually just purchased the RAID version of that board for my new system (GA-P35-DS3R)
Rocky 1,224
Well, parts ordered and should arrive today, in a few hours. I've not built a computer in years, should be fun...
ROCO*AFZ* 0
Did you end up in your price range once it was all said and done?
Rocky 1,224
Did you end up in your price range once it was all said and done? I forgot to add VAT in my original pricing, so I had to drop the processor to a low end Dual Core, which brought the price bang in on target - £300. I have a Q though which I will go post in a new thread - about usb connections.
