Parabellum
And folks like to call Americans stupid... One fourth of the British polled believe that Winston Churchill never existed. A staggering 58% believe that Sherlock Holmes was indeed a real person. I found this to be very, very funny, especially given the "Americans are stupid" sentiment that pops up around here every so often.
Rocky
Yep, it's unanimous, we are all stoopid.
KRP 56
That's due to that great institution called public education.

Hmmm...sounds like some Brit bashing to me ......have I mentioned yet the article in this weeks US Army Times that mentions how Brits prefer their beer warm? I suggest the reporter checks that 'myth' out in a few search engines. As for UKTV Gold's survey, I'd like to know how it was taken and the ages of the people involved. Their parents need a good slapping DS

Proper Beer aka Ale is and always has been served warm/ room temp, Lager on the other hand now being called Beer more and more frequently is served cold. Dick Splash
Does this not depend on what you call Beer? Proper Beer aka Ale is and always has been served warm/ room temp, Lager on the other hand now being called Beer more and more frequently is served cold. There are two types of beer, ale and lager. The most popular domestic US beers are of German immigrant origin and are therefore lagers and yes, British ales are served at room temperature and traditionally that 'room' is the cellar, a temp. of around 55F-ish and so British ale's are warm'er' than lager and not warm. US beer's especially, have less flavoUr than ale and because they are served very cold there is even less flavoUr. However, because the cold temperatures are more thirst quenching, they are pleasurable to drink, despite this lack of flavoUr. I thought you'd like that Para' DS

Guest
I see comments about beer in a "people are stooped" thread. I resem-resent that remark! But back on topic, sort of....if you want to talk about stupidity, you should try going to any conspiracy thread out there. It's amazing what people will believe is a conspiracy, even Churchill not existing lol. (Btw, I KNOW he existed...I saw him....on the History Channel) Edited February 18, 2008 by durka-durka
