naw, i mean, my ps2 really is broken, but this thread is pretty much just a joke.

To put things into perspective, though, i bought my ps2 new four years after the console was released, and it broke down in under two. Good consoles break. If everybody would back off of the fanboyism for a second or two, it's pretty plain to see that both Sony and Microsoft are faceless, soulless corporate entities that care nothing for the individual consumer.

Thing is, videogames are a shared passion for a whole lot of people, and looking back 20 years ago, it's a miracle that they are where they are now. Chill out, quit harping over sales and failure rates, and just enjoy what you have, if you can afford it. Games are supposed to be fun. Relax. This applies to everyone crying about GRAW as much as it does console fanboyism or whatever. Do you know how much money and talent went into making those games, which a lot of people enjoyed? Seriously, cry about not getting exactly what you wanted, less. Gift horse, mouth, etc etc.

You know im glad you made this really. I wanted to come on here and say something about just the love of gameing. I love it all! I do tend to call out bad Rumors, trolls or fanboys being neg just to trash talk other things for no reason other than to make you try to buy there system only. Therefor maken me respond back in deffence, if it seems called for. Doesn't matter what system really or game for that matter. I made up my mind yesterday that from here on out. I only want to repley to gamers in the love of gaming. There is alot of bad rumors, trolls and fanboys out there that like to cross the line i normaly like to defend. Yet today is a new day and im on ignore mode to them for awhile. Anyways i know must of you here from over the many many years since GR1 PC and becoming friends with alot of you over that time. Just becuase of the love of playing all type of games and i like to keep it that way. So happy gaming to you all!

Nothing new. All disc players gets uncalibrated or otherwise aged with time. It happens to DVD and CD players as well as consoles.

I have the first generation PS2 and it's still running. My brother had a first generation PS2, but he's been putting in 5 times the gaming hours then me and had to calibrate the laser on his first one and then got another PS2 after a few more years when the laser was in even worse shape and couldn't just be recalibrated anymore.

We've had 3-4 PS1 as well. All of them suffer from the need to upside down while playing these days as their laser shuttle has been torn down on the underside to the point that the laser is too far from the disc to work. Same with a CD Freestyle I have from the mid 90's and my first DVD player from 1996.

At least they handle more hours of gaming then the Xbox does. Now there was a waist of money. :P

At least microsoft replaced my broken xbox for free. For a ps2 repair i'd be paying almost as much as it would take to get a new console.

Anyway, this thread isn't actually about failure rates as much as it is about complaining about failure rates -- all games and entertainment are a 'waist' of money, if you want to look at it that way. We buy them because we enjoy them, take them as what they are. Toys. Toys break, under all manner of circumstances, well made or poorly made.

Nah. It's usually the laser and that's about a fifth/sixth of the price the PS 2 had the first two years. Now its about a third. But you still have to pay for it if it doesn't break within the first two years.

EDIT: May be different laws in different countries though. In Sweden there is a law for at least 2 year warranty on electronics (besides TVs who has to have at least 3 years).
