ZJJ 74
For the longest time I didn't like the Palms as I felt they were very limiting, but they seem to have come a long way.....
Rocky 1,224
Yes, coming from a Psion, that's exactly how I felt - now I like them because of the huge catalogue of cheap software downloads, and very cool form factor.
Super-Bob 0
What I want is that Nokia "Palm" phone.
firefly2442 0
I wonder if handheld technology and improvements are moving at a faster rate than latops and desktops? It seems like handhelds keep getting faster and better looking...
Guest Jester
Last I heard, Nvidia was working on graphics acceleration for windows CE handhelds.... Heard that right after I saw 'Heretic' on one.

Urban_Tiger 0
Which Psion do you have out of interest please Rocky??? I have one too and must admitt been threatening to upgrade that for a bit although it's not essential as it's not too bad the model I have got! My dad had a Series 3, that was OK'ish for a few basic things etc (certainly very reasonable for its time too), but not brilliant by moving standards lol! Not really looked into it recently and wondering if you will notice a huge difference by changing up from the Psion you have or just some small extra's and functionality etc now that you've looked into more recent stuff ??? Any good recommendations that you've seen in your searching lol???
Rocky 1,224
Which Psion do you have out of interest please Rocky??? My wife uses the old series 3a that I replaced with a Palm Vx a while back. When I changed I found the Palm terribly limiting, because the Psion was so flexible, with it's built in spreadsheet and word processor - hugely functional diary, and powerful programming language that I spent many hours playing with. The Palm OS (eben a year or two later) was not even in the same league. Nowadays though, the Psion has been totally wiped out with the razzle dazzle of colour screens, built in digital cameras, movie playback etc. The main draw for me is the formfactor though, you can easily slip a Palm into a shirt pocket, the Psions were always a little bulky for that. Urban_Tiger 0
Yeh, pretty much what I thought lol....Thanks Rocky ! I have a Series 5 but it's not really much different to the series 3 fundamentaly, (my dad had a 3a too, and before the 5 I had a 3c, still got that somewhere lol)!! They are handy and as you say the OPL is actually quite functional too, glad I'm not the only one who fiddled with it rofl, generally getting it more wrong than right 80% of the time tho LMAO! If they could create a greater range of the Psions with colour I don't actually mind the size of them too much so you can retain the keypad etc as that is so much more useful than the little Palms like you say. My dad has a Compaq touch screen palm and he worked a way to get the Psion and the Compaq to talk to each other and swap info tho (he's a databse programmer and software engineer by trade tho so he did some useful things with the Psion anyway), so it made having the 2 very worth while, 1 that you could just keep in that shirt pocket and the other somewhere more spacious lol (he's a total gadet freak tho and justifies having lots of them lol), for most that arrangement isn't wonderful and generally defeats the object tho lol!! Oh yeh, it's great, I actually became pretty good with it. One program I wrote kept track of Lottery statistics, and even draw graphs on ball frequency. The graphs scaled automatically so that they were never higher than the screen resolution. It was a great piece of programming (head swells) , I will always be proud of it LOL! I could never manage to pull it off again, I can't remember anything about it now. Heh, I remember more now, it even drew the lottery balls on the screen for you to type in the balls drawn that week... LOL. Sad I know. I wonder if it is still on the Palm... Urban_Tiger 0
ROFL....... Lottery obsessed then??.....NAHH lmao . Sounds like a nifty piece of work m8 nice one, if ya dig it out and happy to share (if you have the PsiWin software and lead of course lol), then upload it to ya comp and send the source m8 lol (beg beg grovel grovel, rofl hehehe)!! Can't say I went that mad with it but gees you must have got good with it lol !
Rocky 1,224
Okay now I am sad. I just found the 3a, and there is no lottery program on it. Just some rubbish ones I wrote that were not much use, all that is left of the lottery one is the lottery "hand" I drew. I can't understand why I would still have the rubbish on there and not the greatest thing I ever programmed. Dammit that annoys me
Urban_Tiger 0
LOL.....NM m8 Must admitt when I was fooling about with mine when I hadn't had it long (like many with a new gadget there was the obligatory complete failure to get round to reading any instructions etc rofl, we all know how to work these things without reading the book don't we hehehe!!!)...... ......I had spent hours adding in tons of important info to the Data and Contacts etc and setting it all up, had done tons of other work in other places too and then had a total brainfart and wiped the whole lot by mistake rofl!! Back to square one instantly lol !
Rocky 1,224
I got my hands on the new Zire today! The slide movement to reveal the camera is very sturdy, more than the Tungsten mechansim, which is good. But it is a distinctly chunky device, quite deep. It was very easy to take photo's, and the screen was very very clear. Then I picked up one of the new Pocket PCs, a hewlett packard I think, wow, as well as coming right down in price, PPCs are really coming down in size, this thing was noticeable slimmer and lighter than the Palm Zire! Very nice.
