Hatchetforce
http://theangrypixel.com/blog/2008/01/28/f...lo-wars-for-pc/ Finally, after enough assurances that this is not a cruel hoax, we can let you, our dear readers, know that Halo Wars, touted as an Xbox 360 exclusive, is also apparently in development for the PC. But that’s not all - apparently the game will also feature cross-platform play, a la UNO and Shadowrun, between gamers on the Microsoft console and their PC counterparts. Sup
Pretty much expected. Microsoft wants to round out games for windows, and ensemble has always been a pc dev.
Hatchetforce
Pretty much expected. Microsoft wants to round out games for windows, and ensemble has always been a pc dev. It is a common sense move. It will sell on the 360 - it's HALO after all. I have it on pre-order. And since strategy gamers are usually more of a PC crowd it will add to the flagging Live games on Vista. Strategy titles do not move consoles so it isn't a loss for them. Deadpreacher
I wouldn't be surprised at all. PC and the x360 are money in MS pocktets. MS has to two sides when it comes to gaming and as long as its exclusive to ether or both, MS wins! I expect to see this more and more in the future! Hatchetforce
MS needs to do something. I am running a dual boot system with Vista Ultimate 64 on one side. Other than websurfing and a few media abilities it is worthless as a XP upgrade. All of this jibber jabber MS kicked out concerning the evolution of community was dead two days after it got out the door and it was stinking 4 days prior to that. Meanwhile Steam has just stomped on MS when it comes to community. The structure was there, MS was just too greedy, too lazy, and too dumb to avail themselves of it by restriction to Vista. krise madsen
Looking on from the sideline, it does look as if MS is putting PC gamers in a Catch 22: They release DX10/Vista exclusive PC games. But Vista is crap for most other PC games. Somehow I don't see that setup motivating people to buy Vista and associated DX10 games in larger numbers. The solution is of course to get Vista to work properly as a game OS, which I'm sure it will in time. Until then, it looks as if "DX10 Exclusive" is a surefire way to never make a profit on that particular game... It seems, to me at least, that MS was so focused on creating an exclusivity/closed system cash cow that they forgot to create a good service people were willing to pay for. Not that I care about Halo Wars in particular as I never play RTS. Respectfully krise madsen
Deadpreacher
Yea i think im staying with XP for awhile now. I will get Vista in time, but XP still does everything i want it too!
Hockeystick
I'm not surprised. I would be surprised if they didn't release it for the PC. It's an RTS and it would be foolish to make a console exclusive RTS game.
Hatchetforce
I ma a HALO fan so I will definitely pick it up. I like the science fiction genre quite a bit and the story stands on it's own as a remarkable achievement. Part of the DX issue is that the vast advantages of DX10, or 10.1 for that matter (ooohhh 10.1 ) has yet to reveal itself. The differences are just too subtle at the moment. EDIT: Looks like MS isn't as smart as we thought. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/848/848646p1.html "Halo Wars is being developed from the bottom up for the Xbox 360 and its control scheme to ensure that we deliver a groundbreaking console RTS experience. Given that, we have no plans to develop 'Halo Wars' for Windows Vista at this time," Microsoft said. FA sear
Although I cannot say that I am the biggest Halo fan, I still enjoy the series quite a bit. I found Halo & Halo 2 both interesting and still plan on buying Halo 3 (when I get around to it). I also plan on picking up Halo Wars too, but who knows when I will get around to a 360. Anyway, this title looks like a winner, but that is no surprise to me as I found the series improving and not going down hill as some other titles have. (will trade for gun parts) Sorry, but I am not sure I have anything in that price range. Maybe a selector with a travel adjustment on it? In all seriousness though I still have not even picked up a 360. I really have spent VERY little time gaming in the last year or so, as a result my plans in regard to buying a 360 are not only on the back burner, but the burner is in the off position. If I start gaming more, then I will jump on one.
