Weapon skinning issue

Recommended Posts

I've been skinning characters for a while now, but I decided to try my hand at weapons. The problem is that when I create a skin, it comes out chrome (huge novelty value, but hardly cool. :D ), but you can still faintly see the texture underneath.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers,

Archer.

It's probably the specular side of things that you are doing wrong.

If you open one of the original weapon skins in photoshop and take a look at the alpha channel (that's where the specular map resides) you can see most of them are pretty darn dark. Make sure you don't make the spec channel any brighter than what the originals are.

haha! GIMP, wow. i use to use GIMP, it is rather similar to photoshop. when i skinned in GIMP i never used dds files. here is a dds converter that you can dL: DDS converter

you can use that and convert the dds to jpeg and edit the jpeg files. then, after you are finished skinning, save your jpeg, then convert it back to dds or w/e file GRAW recognizes :P

btw, make sure you are opening the right files

EDIT: nvm, just read a post where you said that you use a dds converter :P
