Our old projector screen tv's been on the blink for months now so we ordered an HD TV and it's comin the 15th of this month. I was wondering what the best video player is for an HDTV. We have a DVD player and are probably gonna stick with that for a while but I was wondering whether HD DVD is better or Blu Ray. We get our HD TV in a little less than two weeks and I'm still trying to figure out which player to get. Until there's a winner, I think I'll just stick with the DVD player. Cause I don't wanna get a blu-ray player and then find out some movie I wanna get is coming out on HD DVD. Never knew movies would be like consoles and PCs. I'm with Colin on this one. Colin Posted February 3, 2008 Share Posted February 3, 2008 Yes makes sence too, got an HD tV for xmas, just waiting now for prices to drop and the war to end so to speak. The other thing is tv provider too, we were with sky but going back to virgin media there package seems better for HD support, plus thire top box warrenty is forever, but sky is only 12 months, then you pay for call outs. WhiteKnight77 Posted February 3, 2008 Author Share Posted February 3, 2008 More studios have gone with Blu-Ray over HD DVD, but from what I have seen, at least at Wal-Mart, HD DVD movies sell faster than Blu-Ray though it appears that Blu-Ray is outselling HD elsewhere. I still want to do some more research on that though. There is always the combo players that have both formats built in though those may be a bit pricier than a single format player. Just waiting for one or the other to win so I can finally decide. There is a winner and it is Bluray. Everyone in the industry knows it. HD DVD is dead, they just forgot to lie down. Now you have Microsoft clearing it's throat saying, "Well we have been talking to Bluray all along." It's over and done with. A year ago there was a question but now it's safe to go ahead and make that investment. If you are going to get a Bluray player you might as well get a PS3. The other day, I had my normal DVD in my HD-DVD player, hooked up to my HD TV and it was being pumped out at 1080i. So sweet! As long as I can upconvert by normal DVDs, I don't see a need to buy HD-DVDs. The truth of the matter is, these new supposed formats were to be an enhancement to better view quality. Hahaha. That means I'll be getting cheap movies soon. You know you can get pirated DVDs here for under US$1? Around $.75 each. I usually buy those for movies I never really intend to see on the theater anyway (like Rambo IV...hahaha. Did anyone see that? Dear lord...), or movies that do not have "collectors' value" to me. I did, however, get original Transformers Special Edition with the Transforming box, the Band of Brothers Tin Box collection (lent the first set to an ex. She took off with that one. ######.) and several other movies. As for the rest, pirated DVDs are the best. Many of the members there are saying that a great many shops in the UK are dropping HD DVD and going Blu. Maybe some locals can comments on this. We just got out HD TV today so now we just gotta get a blu-ray player a re-buy all the good action movies in Blu-Ray. Hooked up the DVD player and all I've been watching are action movies. The problem is the internet destroyed the power the porn industry had in the days of video tape. Now it is about the power of the game machine and it's trojan (pun intended) horse.
