Rocky 1,224
If this was on the x-files it would have been dismissed as too far out there, ever for Mulder. Tree Man.
xG5kdo 0
Yeh, this is the current hot news in this part of the world. You see him on the front pages everyday. Apparently the man has some skin disease. Oh, he's Indonesian, by the way, from West Java. Now, U.S. television channels Fox TV and Discovery Channel are trying to buy the rights of his story for a feature. He was discovered by a Discovery Channel crew, by the way. The man is obviously sick. Its sad that his predicament is commercialized like this. Edited November 26, 2007 by xG5kdo
Metal_Jacket 0
Yes, it is extremely sad for anyone to go through what that guy is going through at the moment; it does seem that Fox and discovery channels are going to exploit this story for all its worth. But, by making his problem well known to the world community, it can possibly find a solution to his extreme problem, whereas he can lead a normal life once again. I am very interested to know if the U.S doctor can help.

Exactly, here's hoping he finds help without exploitation.
Sup 0
what's wrong with him finding help with exploitation? If fox and discovery make him famous, then whoever cures him becomes famous -- curing the miraculous tree man has a lot more appeal than curing some unknown Indonesian man. This means he's a lot more likely to get help. Publicity does nothing but help him. And it makes discovery and fox money. And it gives whoever cures him the reward they deserve, instead of a footnote in bizarre medicine. Everyone wins.
Rocky 1,224
There is a fine line between exploitation and publicity. Exploitation is selfish actions for personal gain - not nescessarily with the good of the third party in mind. For example, sticking him in a cage in a travelling show as the wonderious tree man - that would be exploitation. Publicity offered by mass awareness of the issue through the medium of television on the other hand could help find someone with a solution. Splitting hairs over semantics and ill advised use of emoticons isn't getting you anywhere Sup.
Papa6 88
exploitation is because this sort of thing makes people marvel. kind of like if they would put him in a cage at a zoo. maybe even as a freak side show for a circus. But this sort of thing will show Fox and discovery for what they are. Handled with dignity( yeah right) they could be useful to find a cure. but talk about an issue of the skin. I feel real bad for this chap. I agree with Rocky's sentiments exactly. Edited December 7, 2007 by Papa6
