squad_e
hey everyone, can someone please recomend me a good pair of headphones for the PC, the ones im currently using are good quality but have lots of leakage (people can hear what you listen to and play) annoying if you have to share a bedroom.. even when i'm audio mixing and movie editing. Usuall headphones i buy are SONY brand. So i'm willing to pay quite a bit. Thanks. Oh and nothing too expensive, you know who you are (WD). GrimeyAK
Well, I got the eDimensional AudioFX Pro 5+1 over the summer and so far it's been great. The sound is clear, and the bass from the force feedback is awesome. When you have them on, you can't really hear what's going on around you, and I'm pretty sure that people can't hear what you're listening to. I haven't been using them as of late because I can't hear anything else when I have them on so I might miss someone knocking on the door or calling. WytchDokta
Oh and nothing too expensive, you know who you are (WD). AKG all the way! I will be getting me a pair of AKG's soon enough. I hadn't heard of them them until recently but they keep getting good reviews all around. AKG basically do two types of headphones to fill the biggest areas - home/studio audio editing & engineering (the most expensive, but damn good) and DJ headphones (self explanitory) These ones are currently the best out there for engineering/monitoring studio work. They are probably also the most expensive at nearly ninety squids: AKG K271 Studio headphones The closed-back, circumaural earphones provide maximum attenuation of high ambient noise. The K 271 Studio are also ideal for all applications where no sound must leak from the headphones. The headphones switch off automatically when taken off. Since this feature prevents headphone signals from spilling over into an open microphone it is highly appreciated by recording studio, live sound, TV sound, and broadcast engineers. If you can justify spending ninety squids for a pair of headphones then the K271's will be the best you can buy. This pair of headphones is most likely the pair I will be getting next to replace my current headphones. If that's 'too expensive' (even though your paying for lasting quality with AKG's) for you then you could try these links: Range of 'studio' headphones Range of DJ headphones
Nutlink
I have a Medusa 5.1 Home Edition headset and feel that the money was justified on it. If you want to go the cheaper route the iCEMAT Siberia headphones work really well too. I've used both and highly recommend them.

You told me you were caught up with a certain aspect of the wedding which involved making a certain decision about fit birds.
squad_e
Okey dokey, some great lookin headphones posted above. But how many of you have heard of Sennheiser?.. Ive seen some good reviews for the in-ear style ones, (the style i'm after) that would be good for PC and my IRiver clix 2. A range of them here
Parabellum
I used to have a really nice pair of AKG headphones that I used for studio work. I found them to be fantastic, and had little in the way of sound leakage, in or out.

My current ones (not AKG) are a bit funky as in when I move around with them on, the sound switches from one ear to the other, or comes out distorted/fuzzy etc. Quite alot of sound leakage with them too. And TBH, I haven't had them that long.

And TBH, I haven't had them that long. It has been so long since I had them, I honestly couldn't tell you the model number. It's been about five or six years since I had to throw them out due to accidentally breaking them. But I've not found another headset that I've liked as much since. I've used several pair by Sony that I like, but for some reason, Sony headsets tend to boost bass response alot, which obviously isn't good when you need a flat output for reference. Not only that, but the earmuffs on every pair of Sony's that I've owned, have become frayed and uncomfortable over time.
WytchDokta
Imy, you got your headphones yet? I've decided that for studio/reference work, I'm going to be buying AKG 701's When I get on the road, after my media/audio production course, I'm going to go for another pair of headphones, this time DJ headphones again by AKG: AKG 181's So one pair for studio work, one pair for clubs/parties. Seriously man, go for AKG's if you can. I've heard/read good reviews about them from everyone. And I have here in front of me an review of the K701's by the owner of the UK based recording studio - he gave the K701's 5 out of 5. Word of warning though, AKG's are generally VERY expensive but you do get what you pay for when it comes to AKG. Damn, those white/silver K701's are sexier than even Jessica Alba in those hi-res screenies (they're also available in black, designation 'K601')
WytchDokta
Today, I received my new headphones. I now have a nice pair of AKG K701 reference/studio headphones for my audio production work. Quite simply, they're amazing. For a start, when you put them on, you don't feel like your wearing them - they are extremely comfortable and light, so much so that you almost forget you're wearing them. The sound quality surpasses that of rival headphones from other manufacturers. I'm starting to hear bits of percussion etc that I never knew existed in various tracks. These ones fit over the ear too, which for me is better because I wear glasses to see the small text on the monitor screen - with my other pair, they press the arms of my glasses into my head (often I've had to literally peel the glasses arms off the side of my head where the other headphones have pressed them in so hard it almost left me scarred for life after prolonged use) The K701's also come with a nice cradle to rest them in. Just breaking them in to some Kasparov.

Ruin
If you're willing to pay the price, want headphones and NOT a headset... can't go wrong with Bose. I've got their earbuds and used to have their headphones too. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Damn straight.
WytchDokta
Any new info to be added in here? Hoping to buy some new headphones over the weekend. Do you want a headset or do you want headphones? Also, if you want headphones, what will you be using them for? I'm not being nosey, but you should understand that there's different types of headphones for different things. If it's for a 'Reason' (pun intended) or the like, you should go for some reference/studio headphones. Gaming headphones minus the mic bit [gaming headphones, NOT gaming headsets] would be unsuitable for audio work because different headphones enhance/cancel out different frequencies. I'm happy with my £300 pair of AKG 'K701' reference/studio headphones. Well worth the money, that is if you can justify spending that amount of money on a single pair of headphones, whether it's for a good 'Reason' (pun intended) or not. Tinker
I want what is best for using Reason and playing games. (Just purchased reason4) I do not need a mic and am not fussed if it is a headset or headphones. Budget: £
WytchDokta
I want what is best for using Reason and playing games. (Just purchased reason4) For that I have separate pairs of headphones. I'm soon to add a third pair - for my DJ work out in the field (such headphones are really for 'monitoring' the sound rather than listening to music through them). So I have one pair for games, a separate pair for when I do my audio work and soon another pair for my DJ work. Like I said, different types of headphones are best for different things. I magaine trying to use gaming headphones for a DJ set. The sound you hear through the headphones won't be reproduced through the headphones as well it would through DJ headphones, and you'd look like a pleb wearing gaming headphones while DJ'ing, lmao. If you're on a budget, you'd probably be best off with some headphones made by Behringer, whereas heaphones by AKG, while a much more superior quality, are VERY expensive. Then again, atleast with AKG you get what you pay for. I haven't had a pair of Behringer's before though so I can't comment as to their comfort etc. Also, make sure they have a jack adaptor too or you won't be able to plug them into your sound card. Christ, £75 for Bose in-ear earphones even?! Saying that, all the Bose headphones on Amazon that have a rating are rated 4 star and upwards. NP on the info so far. Tinker
Placed my order for those Ruin, cheers. Let you know how they go. Forgot all about these! Arrived today. Unfortunately they had sent an email that must have gotten lost in the junk, stating that they need verbal confirmation of the order. This I only figured out 2 weeks ago after contacting them!
