WytchDokta 6
So, I've got the new rig up & running. Well, Almost. I've just installed XP on it and now it asks me for a password so can log into desktop. Ironically, I never assigned a password to that username during install. Everything I've typed in when it's asked me for a password has been a no-go, even leaving it blank is a no-go. What's the deal here? I figure I'm gonna start it in safe mode, tell the account to not ask for a password. Edited October 9, 2007 by WytchDokta
Colin 0
This may help bro. http://support.microsoft.com/search/defaul...&1033comm=
WytchDokta 6
I contacted the tech support of the company that built the rig, as they didn't install Windows they basically can't help. They told me to boot it from the XP disk, when the bit comes up about partitioning, delete the partition and start over. However, when I boot from XP disk, it goes through all the loading files bit, then I get the options to install XP, repair XP (using console) or exit - no partition bit comes up. The partition stage did come up yesterday, it took over 1 hour to do the partition on my new 500gb hard drive! I've just contacted Microsoft, I'm told it's not a tech support issue - it's a security issue, apparently. However, there I was given the arcticle number of an arcticle relating to my issue here. Apparently, it can be bypassed (hopefully without having to go back an re-install everything from the beginning) Also, what is the key to bring the menu where you can select safe mode etc? F8 gives me the boot menu where you can select which device to boot from, F4 seems to do nothing.
Colin 0
safe mod will also be the same as normal still requires a pass word. Install a fresh. Format when it asks to install option. This site gives a good run down on this mate. http://www.pcuser.com.au/pcuser/hs2.nsf/we...A256EA80038C9A7
WytchDokta 6
WTH? I actually have no password hint question mark next to the arrow on the login. When I attempt login it gives me an error about cannont find domain or something. Argh! During install, I was not presented with about entering a password for users etc, nor was I given the option to set up a password reset disc. I set up only one user. EDIT: what's the difference between quick format and normal format? Edited October 9, 2007 by WytchDokta
Colin 0
I would do a complete fresh install bro it will take about an hour, much quicker than pulling your hair out.
ROCO*AFZ* 0
hit esc like 3 times so it brings up the business type login. For the user type Administrator Leave the password blank. go in, and clear your mucked up account (delete it) and create a new one.
WytchDokta 6
OK guys, thanks for all your help. I got it all working now (except the Ageia Phys-X card) I did a reformat of the drive again, the quick format this time. Set up two user accounts to start. Clicked on one of them to log in, and it did not ask for a password. So I dunno what I did the first time to make it lock me out of XP. I couldn't get my wireless connection working til just now either - for some reason, whenever I tried to connect to the 'net (after installing the drivers etc), it would cut out my 'net connection. But I got it on the third attempt. Third time lucky I guess. I've installed some of my games and tried them out - let me tell you, I feel like I can fly! I ran the FEAR performance test and it said at the end that it was running at 357 frames per second!! (no word of a lie, I can even grab a screenshot to prove it for any doubters) On a side note: I'm not entirely sure what the Phys-X issue is, it's telling me the card isn't installed when it is AND the molex is plugged in (from PSU to lead supplied with Phys-X to Phys-X card)
