E2-Shadow 0
Has anyone been able to get GR to run on XP? I installed all of the 3 discs; it wouldn't run. I uninstalled everything, and then reinstalled just GR. It won't run. I have XP updated. All of my drivers are updated. Dx9.3 or whatever. Am I missing something??? This really sucks! I have nVidia 128mb card. It used to run GR just fine years ago. I can run other games like America's Army etc. I just wanted to play this old beaut a few more times before Vista gets loaded up and I'm sure none of these old games will ever run on it. Here's my log. Hopefully people still come here to check these posts out... GHOSTR~1 caused an Access Violation in module GHOSTR~1.EXE at 001b:00000000. Exception handler called in Main Thread. Hammer 75
Ok when you unistalled it did you do a regestery clean ? after you installed it , it may be still trying to read from a old regestery entry. also you say you installed all 3 disc's are they phisycle discs or iso's?. if you install all 3 discs you only need to install the 1.4 patch as the others are all in the Desert siege disc. that said if you have a newer version on DVD i think the 1.4 patch is included Also which disc are to trying to run the game from? FYI i have a Vista laptop and it runs GR great Edited October 8, 2007 by Hammer
Tinker 1
You should not need to patch the game to make it run. Patches fix several things, but are not required to start the game. Only 32Mb card is needed, plus 128Mb Ram. You may have a corrupt disc or download. Has your version been used before at all?

E2-Shadow 0
GR runs perfectly on XP and Vista, thats certainly not the problem. Well I ran GR with IT, DS for over 2 years on this exact machine. I think it was only SP1 though at the time, but who can remember that far back. Exact same video card, exact same everything except now the nVidia card's driver has been upgraded and the direct x is 9.0c instead of 8. Of course I've ran these games before. I installed them all and patched to 1.4 and it wouldn't run, so I uninstalled and just installed the GR disc. I have XP S2. Vista's on my tablet pc, and certainly I'll never be playing any games on that The disc is not corrupt. The game starts, but when it's time to get past the splash screens it crashes to desktop. When I first installed it with the 2 addons, it ran fine but my monitor won't show 600x480 screens (flickers, always has, only plays 800 resolution and higher with no flicker) so I alt-del and closed it. I uninstalled it after that and reinstalled and it always crashes. Who knows. SOAF does the same thing if that tells you anything. Crash to desktop. ALL DRIVERS ARE UPDATED. Again the only thing i can think of is you have a bad registry entry! even though you uninstalled the game, windows uninstaller very often leaves things in the regestry and the new install will not over-right them. So one again i would get on line and find yourself a regestry cleaner like "CCclean" uninstall the game, run CCclean then try to re-install GR and see what happens from there. I think you can find a free version of CCclean at downloads.com Edited October 10, 2007 by Hammer

Now you mention above the slash screens ? is that just the RS logo and the intro vid ? or are you talking about the actual screen where you dicide what game type your going to play eg- quick mision, campaian etc etc ? or do you get past that to the soldier secection screen, pick your team then crash from there ? Phobos 0
I have a similar problem with my newer HP laptop. My guess is that the problem is related to the Nvidia graphics chip. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ That's a site that hacks Nvidia drivers. Maybe you could try an older driver to get GR working. The only advice I found was that someone had completely reinstalled WinXP and got GR to work again so the problem is bound to be related either to registry or video drivers. I also noticed that when I start GR it crashes straight away, but the actual .exe runs in the background, so doesn't it seem like the game can't just show the actual image (advice anyone?) Let me know if you get it working somehow.

Phobos 0
I've tried 163.71 & 163.75 this far and neither of them worked. I'll try some more if I can bother.
