WytchDokta 6
While I wait for the overdue delivery of my new rig, I have a hard disk question. It will be a brand new hard drive that I'll be sticking into the new rig. It's a barebone system so it doesn't come with hard drive etc as standard. Anyway, once I've installed the hard drive, will I first need to reformat it before installing the OS? Also, I hear alot of things about some RAID thing or RAID 01 thing or something? What's all that about? This is a RAID? RAIDers of the lost rig? And will I need to bother with RAID for my HD? Edited October 3, 2007 by WytchDokta
Kamakazi 0
No you won't need to format it I believe, and if you do Windows (or whatever you are installing on it) will do that for you once you start installing it. RAID is...complicated. This is kinda a description of how one type of RAID works http://www.overclock.net/faqs/48509-info-h...raid0-work.html And here is a description of the different types http://www.overclock.net/faqs/33504-info-w...types-raid.html I find that that does a good job of explaining what RAID is. Essentially with RAID you can either get redundancy (basically an instant backup) or more speed, or kinda both. For a normal computer you be just fine without RAID.
