CR6 0
Yahoo! A new rig coming! With all the new Unreal engine based games coming out that will take advantage of mult-cores, I'd seriously consider paying the $50 more and getting a Q6600 quad core these days, especially since the last price drop. If you are o/c'ing, I have a friend who easily got his Q6600 to 3.2GHz with a good 3rd party cooling fan (and P35 based chipset mobo) If you still want a dual core, I think the E6750's are actually cheaper than the E6600, and you get 1.6GHz faster with 1333MHz FSB If you're in the market for a new sound card, the X-Fi really rocks. I guess it really depends if you are on a strict budget or not?
Rocky 1,224
I'm already over budget with those specs. I sold Mrs Rocky on the idea because "I can use a lot of my existing parts again", but I left out the crucial fact the the parts to be re-used are the most inexpensive componants anyway LOL. You got me thinking about quad though.

You got me thinking about quad though. Ah ha, I see ... if you really want to save, perhaps you can just replace the mobo, cpu, ram and video card. I really didn't think I'd get a quad this year either, but since I've had a few buddies that got one, and the price has come down so much, I figure I might as well go for that if I'm upgrading my P4 3.4GHz gaming rig. It's looking like pretty much all the higher-end gaming systems and benchmarks in the next year will be based on quad-core CPUs.
Rocky 1,224
here's an interesting thread about your case selection: Positives about 900 case Wow, what an awesome photo guide, I love how clear that case is of wiring, extremely cool. Thanks, I might just follow that guide!
KRP 56 92
here's an interesting thread about your case selection: Positives about 900 case Very interesting with a lot of cool pics. Would recommend cutting circular holes and using rubber or plastic grommets where you pull cables or wires.
ROCO*AFZ* 0
where in the uk will you be buying from? I will dig around.
Rocky 1,224
where in the uk will you be buying from? I will dig around. I use ebuyer.co.uk for tech stuff, sometimes overclockers.co.uk if they are much cheaper though.
Rocky 1,224
Okay I am sold on the Q6600, list updated. Just need the guts to click the BUY button now.
Kamakazi 0
I would get a different PSU, I don't know what you have been using it for, but a Q6600 and a GTS are ridiculously more power intensive. And the one thing you 100% don't want is for your PSU to crap out on you, possibly frying your entire computer. Granted I don't know the specs so I can't tell you whether you really want to replace it or not. I guess it probably COULD power it if they budget is really hard ceilinged. Other than that, looks pretty good. That case is probably the most used case I see around the web, so it must be amazing. I have an Antec P182, and it is pretty much amazing, so I am sure all of Antec's are sweet.

Congratulations - I don't think you'll regret it. I'd ask Roco for his recommendations what mobo to go with it. I've only had experience with the Intel 965/975, and they are solid. However, the P35 chipset is more "future proof" and nVidia's 680i seems to be a favorite for hardcore gamers (and an obvious choice if you go SLI)
firefly2442 0
I have the Antec 900 and I really like it. I also just built a very similar system, Asus mobo, Q6600, EVGA 8800 GTX, etc. I haven't tried overclocking because well frankly, it's not necessary yet. Lemme know if you have questions. ROCO*AFZ* 0
change the commando... it won't do SLI.. .unless you have ati.. as it's a crossfire board. Most of us quad users are using this one... http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/132812 Here is a review on that commando http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/03/06/asus_commando/
