Pave Low
Announced today UBISOFT TAKES TO THE SKIES WITH NEW TOM CLANCY AIR COMBAT BRAND Paris, FRANCE – September 25, 2007 – Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced the creation of a new Tom Clancy franchise being developed by Ubisoft’s Bucharest studio for next generation consoles and PC. The first air combat game taking place in Tom Clancy’s universe, the brand will launch in 2008. “Ubisoft has an unrivaled track record of creating and sustaining new brands,†said Serge Hascoet, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. “Our commitment to refreshing our catalog with regular introduction of new IPs is what keeps gamers coming back for more. With this new brand we’re redefining the aerial combat genre and extending the Tom Clancy universe to deliver a compelling new action titles to next-generation gamers.†Set in a near future, the game imagines a world where a private military force has cumulated such power that it attacks the USA. Thrust into the cockpits of incredibly powerful and technologically advanced jet fighters, gamers will benefit from hi-tech piloting assistance, providing comfort, security and enhanced perception. As players gain skills and confidence, they will be able to shed the assistance. But before choosing performance over security, they’ll have to weigh the risks carefully. “We are confident that this new brand will become the new benchmark for flight combat games and will be, like other Tom Clancy based games, an instant online multiplayer hit,†says Sebastien Delen, managing director of Ubisoft’s Bucharest studio. “The player will experience all the action and excitement of modern air combat, from intense dog fighting to tactical strikes.†

GR_Ranger
Interesting, tx. I'm no flight sim fan but I'm actually interested in getting into a military themed game for once that's not an FPS or RTS. And with the Tom Clancy brand I know or at least hope to expect realism and intense gameplay. They better not dumb down flight combat just because this might be coming out for the consoles as well. I know they might want to make this a little user friendly for mainstream audiences but it would be cool if this still had detailed controls that takes up a 100% of your keyboard keys. Also, you think they'll move on to a Tank/Armored Combat sim? That would be awesome cause then before you know it, there'll be a battlefield 2 style game under the Tom Clancy brand. krise madsen
I'm no flight sim fan but I'm actually interested in getting into a military themed game for once that's not an FPS or RTS. Me too. And with the Tom Clancy brand I know or at least hope to expect realism and intense gameplay. Fat chance. They better not dumb down flight combat just because this might be coming out for the consoles as well. They will. I know they might want to make this a little user friendly for mainstream audiences but it would be cool if this still had detailed controls that takes up a 100% of your keyboard keys. Their idea of "user friendly for the mainstream audience" is something akin to the flying in Battlefield 2. I'd be surprised if you had to lower or raise the landing gear yourself. Now, I would love to be proven wrong, I really would. A game that has decent realism without becoming an arcade joke. Something that portrays the challenges of (in this case modern) air combat with a high degree of realism, but without requiring you to have a PhD just to read the manual. But I really don't think that's what we'll get. Respectfully krise madsen

Or they could do what everyone expects, make an awesome arcade flight sim to compete with Ace Combat, and let everyone who doesn't feel like playing a videogame that doesn't try to be realistic makes them less human have fun. EricJ
Well in light of GRAW/2, I'm hearing "Ace Combat Clancy style" so I'm staying with DCS for a long time, unless this turns out to be actually worth it.
simulacra
Why stay with DCS when falcon 4 still exists?

Deadpreacher
Oh i didn't know that! I remeber some info coming out on Firehawk back than and it was all about a Plane Sim. Wonder where all that info came from than? If anything maybe we where still getting a hint at this title what ever the name turns out to be! Evilducky
Well in light of GRAW/2, I'm hearing "Ace Combat Clancy style" so I'm staying with DCS for a long time, unless this turns out to be actually worth it. IM with you on this one. DCS will set some extreamly high standards for a Combat Flight sim. I dont see UBI adding all the features that the DCS series will have into a console/PC game. (now to get my joystick working and get TrackIR)
