Trouble with versions & .exe

Recommended Posts

I originally have GR working with patches 1.3 &1.4 and the [Thing that should not be spoken of here IAW Forum Rule 3.7] patch. I recently purchased the Gold Edition for the expansion packs. I uninstalled and then reinstalled to GR Gold. Now when I try to play on UBI it says that I only have version 1.0 although the game states 1.4. I tried to play a version 1.0 game and the GR tells me that it having problems with the .exe file and goes back to the forum screen. I had the [Thing that should not be spoken of here IAW Forum Rule 3.7] patch on originally did that mess something up??

If you uninstalled everything prior to reinstalling, you shouldn't have any problems. One thing to do is point Ubi.com to where GR really is on your PC. If you still have problems, you will most likely need ot uninstall GR and completely delete the folder from your system prior to reinstalling.

I uninstalled, using the wizzard. could the [Thing that should not be spoken of here IAW Forum Rule 3.7] pach be left on the computer causing the problems with the .exe file? I am going to try to uninstall using the add/remove files, insted of the wizzard.

I think the [Thing that should not be spoken of here IAW Forum Rule 3.7] patch is put in the exe. file so when you deleated Ghost it should of been removed also.

Try a full uninstall, and also , if worse comes to worse, clean all the ubi and Redstorm folders out of the registry.

Do this by :

If you feel comfortable going into the registry, go into hkey_local machine\software, and delete any gr , and redstorm, and ubi folders there.

Also, if your original game was bundled with a vid card, check those folders also for GR, Ubi, or Redstorm entries, and delete them also.

Then go into hkey_current user\software, and delete the same folders there also.

WARNING: Before doing this, do 2 things to cover your butt. VERY IMPORTANT ! !

export your registry to your desktop or another safe place. If something goes south on ya, you can always go back into safe mode, double click the reg export, and it will restore itself.

Go into start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore, and create a restore point, BEFORE you make any changes. This will also restore PC if something goes south on ya.

You should never play in the registry without doiing these 2 things.

And whenever updating or changing drivers, always create a restore point first.

After cleaning drive and registry, install retail version, and all should be good.
