Is the Ghost Recon Community Dying.

I frequent many Ghost Recon Fansites. From GR.NET to XGZ to the Xbox.com GRAW 2 forums to the Official GRAW 2 forums. And i can easily say that this game looks dead community wise. Posts are getting less and less frequent. How did such a great community become such a lacklustre one.

Can the community be ever re-established for Ghost Recon? If the games continues with their arcade feel i think not. I remember when i first started playing Ghost Recon online, I was amazed by the community and the sense of fun that ran throughout it. If you were bad at the game people would help you out. I remember getting tips from great siege players like Happycowboy and OBI WAN. Even though id just met them. What do we have now, people booting or teamkilling level 1s in ranked games. Even the player matches have no tolerence for new players.

Some really bad decisions have been made by either UBI or RSE ( don't know whose making the calls ) for the last few games. Id advise RSE talking directly to some of the people who run these sites, then taking their expert knowledge and trying to convince UBI to let them use it. What have you got to lose. Just ask their opinion. While reading our posts is a great thing, RSE seem to take out the wrong things. For example remaking Ghost Village is GREAT but its a shadow of its former self without the old siege types and the mist effect. Something needs to change or the drastic decline in the GR community will continue unabated. I mean going out of the top 10 after 4 months. Surely that has set some alarm bells ringing.

I don't think RSE has made any bad calls, in fact, they may be the only thing keeping GR a good title, but Ubi has made bad calls in choosing the direction to take GR. MP is still good, but it's simply gotten old and repetitious, needing to be updated.

SP needs to go back to a more militant feel, not playing a role in a movie. The "24" style of conflict and storyline is really NOT good in these games (GR & Rainbow, that is). MP needs to have actual objectives, not flares to defend. Controls in SP need to be tight and quick as in previous games, not slow and frustrating like in GRAW 1/2--and MP movement needs a better feel as well, although it has been better than SP in the last 2 games. Movement in SP & MP simply feels sloppy and annoying.

GR is going to have to fight to stay on top in 2008. ArmA 2, [Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising], Rogue Warrior, Warhound and possibly Ground Branch are to come out--all heavy hitters in realistic shooter gaming. We're no longer going to be limited to GR & Rainbow, so both games need to step up or risk getting lost among some potentially very strong titles. It would be a shame to see these old favorites just fade away. We need "GR" without the "AW". Get back to basics, not gadgets, and improve gameplay. That means an open realistic feel in SP and a MP that adds realism and mimics true special forces missions, not game types that all feel like training missions.

The communities are dying off because the game is going the wrong direction and stagnating. I still like it, but it's simply not the top gaming choice it was for me when GR2SS was out. Ubi doesn't need to try to force this new game style down our throats anymore. Time to cut losses, change direction and get back on track with a great game. I hope they do that, and soon.

That's my biggest complaint, as a SP/co-op player. The whole feel of the campaign is wrong wrong wrong. That amazing authentic feel we had in GR1 is gone, and has been replaced by a cheezy action flick feel, ever since GR2.

Now, one could argue that games like Halo and GOW are not authentic combat either yet they have a strong community. True. But the reason is that those games are exactly what they should be, as the have been from day one. Run/gun action and hollywood type story. That works for those games, and it's what their fanbase expects!

But Ubi has taken GR and turned it into just another shooter, and in that arena it pales in comparison to giants like Halo, Quake, etc which are stronger than ever BECAUSE THEY ARE CONSISTANT. They aren't trying to be something they are not. They aren't targeting someone elses market. UBISOFT IS. And that only brings quick cash, it does not cultivate, expand, or keep a community.

But that's okay. There is at least one new realistic tac shooter in the works, and I am perfectly willing and ready to show Ubi that my loyalty is only as strong as theirs. ;)

I have played very little GRAW 2 this summer due pretty much to being bored by the game and also in part because I felt the community was not as pleasant as the community in [GR] through GR:SS.

Last night, I decided to give it a try and I played in one sharpshooter and 2 siege rooms. When I searched for Siege at a couple of different times, only three rooms showed up. I did not check how many Sharphooter rooms because I went into that game via a game invite.

So, while there are obviously far few people playing, my experience last night is the people playing are much more like the people you met playing [GR] through GR:SS. People were very good natured in the room and easy going, but they were also good players and worked well together and tried to communicate.

Thanks to everyone I played with last night, you were all a great group of gamers.

halo 3 weeded out all the immature kids. so you'll probably see a much more mature crowd on graw2. hopefully!

One game..............CALL OF DUTY 4!

Everytime i played the demo i couldn't stop thinking of Ghost Recon Orig and thinking to myself "man why weren't the sequels to GR like this?".

Hopefully the next GR game is like GR where your a unit and not a hero. We don't want hero's we want tactics as a proper team, a proper fire team, a proper special forces team, a proper ranger team.

We want 1st person so we're led to believe that, thats us in the game fighting for our own lives. Like when we first played Ghost Recon Orig and everytime we came close to a firefight we felt that cold drip of sweat running under our arms as we came close to death.

I'ver never felt that cold drip of sweat since playing Ghost Recon Orig. Times need to change, this new direction is a failure.

Sure its 1-3 hits your dead, but it makes no sense! Everytime you move, its like your driving a vehicle, not controlling a soldier!

Ever time your through a frag, you can't do it acurately like GR1 as you have that silly 3rd person view.

Ubisoft really need to study COD4 when it comes out and even though its an arcade shooter, its make for one hell ova army tactical game in MP. It has the ghillie suit, it has the proper camoflauging, it has the gun sights, it has everything we ever wanted in Ghost Recon 2 but never recieved!

I think America's Army is gonna be alot like the Ghost Recon 2 that we always wanted aswell.

when i 1st played the demo i wasn't to keen on it. probably because i started with inferior weaponry and everyone else was a level 16 so you do the math. but as i worked my way up it was evident that this could be the sleeper game of the year and, hate to say it, but put the proverbial knife in the graw series. i'll be on come nov 5th, hopefully you guys will too. as far as this community goes, i'll still post on here and continue to play graw2 because this a great community and graw still to me is a good game.

how awesome would it be if the next Ghost Recon game played like Ghost Recon 1 but with Call of Duty 4 graphics! It would seriously be a bigger seller than the GRAW franchise that feels more like it is aimed at 13 yr olds.

How much fun was it ay! When you would load up GR1 on the net and play with actual soldiers, the game was that great that we'd find ourselfs playing with real life soldiers! real life police officers!

We need something like COD4 that plays exactly like GR1 with not 3 hit kills like in GRAW but 1 hit kills like GR1. And with a whole squad where u control any member like GR1 none of that hero crap.

My personal belief is that the only way we will get [Ghost Recon] style play in a Future GR title is by the inclusion of :

1. Mission editor with the ability to set triggers, set single, multilple, primary and secondary ojbectives. Also add the ability to make a simple campaign by playing made missions in sequence with a text briefing at the start of each mission.

2. Map editor with the ability to edit terrain, edit character movement and accuracy.

3. Additional simulation/hardcore/realism mode.

GRAW and GRAW 2 sold millions of copies. They won't change that. What we need additional features that can be used to create the experience we all want. But Run&gun is here to stay as the default game.

it doesn't bade well for popularity when UBI shut down posts who got mad as hell when GR2PC was cancelled. That basically right there sent the whole GR franchise in the wrong direction. then GRAW1 released and the faithful said, "is this what I waited for?". then GRAW2 released and it brought a much better feel but still, a run of the mill first person shooter.

when you cancel a game like GR2PC, you'd better bring something hard hitting to the table to justify the cancellation.
