IGOR begins to load, then stops

Recommended Posts

Hi All:

Just today, IGOR all of a sudden stop working. I had used it about two hours ago without any problems. I then go and have some dinner, and come back to finish up what I was doing in IGOR. I start the application, get the welcome screen, and then, about 15-20 seconds into the load, IGOR just suddenly stops loading altogether. I tried everyhting I could think of, even doing a System Restore (Windows XP Home SP-2), without any success.

IGOR has done this before, and I had to wait until I did a complete system format and restore before I could get it to work properly again (after doing a fresh re-install of GR).

Anybody have any ideas? I do NOT want to have to re-do my whole system just to get IGOR running again. But I need it to finish up some missions I am working on.

Thanks!

This isn't going to be much help  but I thought I'd at least give you a pointer to a possible issue,

Were you editing a gun file?

I have found that some of the small apps in the tools menu are pretty unstable, and once it misfiles something there's no going back. :wall:

I've never had to format a drive though, just a fresh reinstall usually does the trick

Personally, I try to edit all .txt file type apps by hand to avoid this kind of thing, only using igor for the really necessary stuff

good luck

Phlookian:

Thanks for the reply...But, nope, I wasn't editing a gun file (like you, I do a lot of that kind of stuff using Notpad to avoid other problems).

I had just finished working on a mission, like I said, and IGOR suddenly stopped loading.

I did notice, however, that when I try and actually run the mission I finished in multiplayer mode in GR, I get the following error message box:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

C:\Program Files\Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon\GhostRecon.exe

abnormal program termination

I have NO idea why I would be getting a visual basic runtime error from a mission...And that mission is the only one I get it in!

Really wierd...

Well it seems like you know what you're doing so I won't insult your intelligence :P but the only other issue is mission size.

The way the files are stored means that you only have a certain ceiling with regard to the size of the mission (I beleive that dynamic objects or somesuch are stored in the volume immediately afterwards), going over the limit usually means that the mission will no longer open in the editor. There is also a limit on the dynamic objects in the scene: actors, vehicles, frags, doors, windows, bullets in flight etc (all can only add up to 255) although trees are exempt from this figure

Hi All:

I created a mission using IGOR. No problems at the start, it seemed to work okay for a while. I come back after dinner (2 hours) and suddenly the mission gives me an error when I attempt to play it:

gr_mission_error.jpg

Now, to top it all off, IGOR has suddenly stopped working. It starts to load, shows the welcome screen, but after 15-20 seconds, it just stops loading all together.

Any ideas???

stop i know why -

1. If you shut down the editor and come back to it later after working on a new mission it may not pick up the mods u were working with. first start up GR game then activate all the mods u are using to mod with. that should fix that problem.

if it duznt go to GR folder and open ike.log and ike.crash and copy paste what was failing from that.

Hi All!

I would like to express my sincerest thanks to those who responded to this post, as you all gave me some really great ideas to work with.

PoW_LigHtsPeEd:

Your suggestion to check the ike.log is what got me going in the right direction. After taking a look at it, I noticed that it had a section indicating that it couldn't load an actor file.

So I deleted the actor file in question, and replaced it with one I know works. And what do you know...Both the mission and IGOR are now working just fine.

I had no idea that something as simple as a corrupted or otherwise bad actor file could cause IGOR to stop functioning. The funny thing is, I've had that particular actor file in my mod for a long time, this is just the first time I've ever used it in a mission.

Deleting the bad .atr file did the trick, but in terms of the mission and getting IGOR to work again! Again, my sincere thanks to everybody, especially to PoW_LigHtsPeEd who got me going in the right direction!
