lol guys, seems like we off topics. Anyway, if GRIN do release GRAW3, i do hope they still maintain the same engine they used for GRAW2 except there is more interactions in the game where building can access for sniping, can select different kind of weapons future and current. Diversity missions in jungle, snow, sea, hostage rescue, desert, urban, island etc.

News flash there buddy. Theres nothing futuristic at all about this game. I'm sure the HUD is not exactly the same. But a similar interface is being used in today's battlefield with certain groups of soldiers. All weapons are currently being used as well with the exception of the MRC which is currently only in prototype developement. Nothing about this game is futuristic at all.

Wow, I have a HUD?! Where did I put the damned thing, then?

Beretta RX4?! Kickin! I can turn-in my POS M16A2 now, then! And that MSG90 sniper rifle is sure to be a hit with the guys who are still toting M14's! And the ZEUS- gotta be all sorts of handy to have a man-pack guided missile to tote around!

EVERYTHING about this game is futuristic! NONE of it is in the field, save for a few of the more conservative firearms. M8? ARE YOU NUTS?! Have you been hiding under a rock for the last four years? WE'RE NOT GETTING IT! PERIOD! SOMEONE may be using it, but they're not in the US military.

And the similar interface in the hands of a certain group of soldiers was a test of prototype that lacks a lot of the functionality of this cool CrossCom thing- you still can't designate targets with it for artillery or airstrikes. And I'd bet dollars to pesos that it'll never see the field.

Get your facts lined up before you go jumping on the 'BUDDY' train...

In one way shape or form everything shown in this game is currently in testing phases, development, or current use.

The M8 carbine was dropped because troops felt that it wasn't durable enough to suit the soldiers needs. In 2005 congress denied the funds needed to continue development of the weapon in favor of other weapons systems and in 2007 the program was suspended pending further review. (Real futuristic there buddy) This weapon is available commercially.

The M416 is currently being used by Special Forces units along with small amounts of SCAR-Ls and SCAR-Hs.

There are many versions of the X4 available commercially today but due to Beretta's hesitance in meeting certain regulations, it is not allowed to be used currently by US military and police forces. The Rx4-Storm (Version seen in the game) is still in development but is slated to begin sales relatively soon. The Italian military is said to be considereing adopting this weapon program (thats a given considereing Beretta is an Italian company) and the US military has considered adopting this as well pending if Beretta can meet US regulations on the weapon.

HK's MSG90 was developed in 1987. Nuff said.

The MR-C is currently in prototype development to be the next Standard Issue weapon for the military. (Note this is the ONLY weapon in-game that could be considered "Futuristic")

G36 was introduced in 1995. Nuff said

The Hud system (Over the eye screen) is currently being field tested with certain soldiers on the field. This refers to soldiers operating Robotic weapons systems such as SWORDS, Lockheed' s MULE and various small ground based reconnaissance robots not excluding robots used for bomb disposal. It is also being developed to coordinate information between air, land, and sea forces more efficiently. An Example of this would be that today's new Jets are being fitted with an extremely wide variety of different sensors and cameras that feed information directly to the Command stations as well as commanders on the field to help coordinate troops better. (Another system that you could call slightly "Futuristic")

The ZEUS is extremely similar to the Javalin system currently being used by today's forces. I would call that a "handy man-pack guided missile." Also, JASGripen links a weapon system that seems extremely similar to the ZEUS.

There we have it buddy. The Ducks are all in a row. Just because WE aren't using it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I also never said that every gun in the game was used by the US military. So how about you get your head out of your ass before you go "Jumping the BUDDY train". Whatever the hell that means.

Well let's just add an AK-101 to Mitchell's arsenal. After all, it apparently doesn't matter what WE have in the field now or in the near future. Change the name to NATO RECON while you're at it. No problem. Anyone can google a couple weapons and see that half the GRAW2 arsenal has been around longer than some GRAW2 fans. But if the idea is to portray what some swoopy-cool US Army Special Forces dudes will be toting around six years from now, GRAW2 is only marginally closer to reality than was GRAW. That's still not so good.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the train has departed the station. All jackasses accounted for (myself now shamefully included...)...

Guys, could we please put the discussion about GRAW gear being "what the future will look like" to rest?

The uniforms, weapons and other equipment in GRAW1/2 is loosely based on the US Army Future Warrior and similar soldier programmes. Primarily, the Cross-Com (a fictional device) is a convenient "excuse" to implement the usual health meter, crosshairs, in-game cutscenes, and command map/radar in a more "natural" way.

GRAW1/2 is a first person shooter that falls somewhere between the traditional "arcade" military shooter (such as the Battlefield series) and the "hardcore" tac-sim (such as GR1). The game is then spiced with some (rather limited) "advanced warfighter" features, which (again) falls somewhere between a faithful representation of potential future equipment and semi-fictional gear added for the "cool factor" and just for the fun of it.

PS: Unless GRAW2 bombed sales-wise, there will be a GRAW3, IMO.

I heard Red Storm was gonna make the new one.

I believe this is correct information.

Hey Mono, I agree. I've heard whispers around here myself about this. Mono, is there anyone from the original GR game still actively working at RSE? I don't mean the janitor either..

I'd reply to that if it could even be remotely called a "comeback"

I know one thing. I'm not gonna be paying attention to a forum to decide whether I wanna buy my next game or not. Just gonna base it off of my experience with the demo which unfortunately with this, I still couldn't tell. I'll either do that or wait for someone I know to buy it and see what they think. Cause the forums to me just got the game too hyped up and I seem to disagree with a lot of people about this game. I think the concept was good but it's like everything great about GRAW they took out in GRAW 2. I mean they've fixed a few things with the patch but the main reason I'm still playing is cause of Brettzies' weapon mod. A lot of people though GRAW was horrible cause it was full of bugs but most of those were fixed in the 1.35 patch. So I was looking forward to GRAW 2 cause I saw they had ACUs and some sweet new guns but after playing it, I really doubt I'll be buying a GRAW 3 if it is ever made.

I agree. The only similarity between [GR] when compared to GRAW and GRAW 2.... is they both have Ghost Recon in the title. Forget about anything and everything else.

Just my opinion. Referring to the MP demo, never played SP. The main problem with the GRAW2 Demo is IMO the least appealing map was included, and that's it. The demo should have include 1 or two of maybe Lagoon, Crashsite, Fort, Nowhere or Timber. You get a better feel for the game, stlye and play. PLus you get to se the advancement in a less rushy run & gun style of map that many of the GRAW1 maps became. Calavera would consistently turn into a spawn camp fest especially in the demo days. You also don't get to see some of the vegetation and different environments from GRAW1. People that are on the fence about the game tend to pull off of it.

When I played the included maps with the retail version I was psyched, they aer not what I expected. The demo did no justice for the full version. Yet I wish there where more maps included. The modders will hopefully change that.

Is it a possibility to post a new demo with a different map for MP....if more people end up liking the demo, should follow with increased sales after the initial release rush? It may be a smart option. More sales = mo' money! = GRAW3??

Just a note, RAbbi_74 is an active duty, Light Infantry Platoon Sergeant. He has alot of pent up frustration (Natch, he's a Platoon Sergeant), but he's not stupid, and to the point, ill informed. No I don't work for him, but I've known him long enough and what he does for a living, so I understand more than you. Next, the Stryker has been deployed in-theatre for at least two, maybe three years in Iraq. Iraq isn't made for tanks, least in cities anyways, much less anything, and tanks are expensive, very expensive to maintain. Congested roads, some not even accessible by Hummer, so whatever your point is, you're wrong (but Bradleys are pro bono for direct fire support!). There's alot of soldiers coming to my unit from Alaska (Stryker Brigade mind you) and I haven't really heard much complaints about it. Soldiers love to complain, but usually nothing too bad. Plus they take alot of abuse and keep rolling back to the FOB, limping but overall it's a very survivable vehicle. Not every Division is going or staying Heavy. My Division, 1st ID is starting it's Light Brigade, 3-1 Infantry (well what do you know, I'm in it!), and the heaviest vehicle we got are LMTVs, no tanks, just alot of Humvees and such.

Future Force Warrior. You even remotely know what's going on with the program? You throw alot of stuff out, but nothing has substance. Do some research, or more of it anyways. Or maybe I know a little about it myself from personal experience versus what's on the Army homepage. And no I'm not getting too expressive on it.

Weapons, the M32 is used by the USMC, and personally I prefer the rifle/GL combo. You can make alot of things happen with that if you use it right. The .45 so far has been tested and evaluated, no word on anything happening on it.

Oh yeah, the ZEUS-MPAR really should be the Predator SRAW. The Javelin is a totally different system (two part rather self-contained like the SRAW is), in appearance and capabilities. Do a Google search, you'll see the differences.

And for the record, I think GRIN just added what they thought would be cool. In most cases, you can treat it as an "alternate reality" game. So if we use those weapons or not, who cares! They're fun to play with and if anything I'd wish for, would be the MR-C, but that's my view and I'm sticking to it. So while RAbbi_74 has been very expressive on what he thinks, and I agree with him on some points, it's a game and not delve into too much reality as it is. Life offers it's own share of reality, and sometimes I like to just escape and blast AI tangos with weapons that exist and may never will, and the world will still turn.

And on another note, there's alot of military here. So while it's cool you're trying to prove you know what you're talking about, realize that you need to formulate your sentences better. Because really it looks like you don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah Eric that was about as well put as I've seen. I'm trying to gain weight and also get my head checked before I go into the Army to be an Infantryman and I've ate my words a few times trying to post on military weapons/gear and all that. I've basically learned just not to be a know-it-all getting all my stuff from Wikipedia. I've done google searches on the Predator and Javelin and I've seen the differences but I didn't wanna post too much since I'm not actually in yet. I play this game and other games like it to get stress out. I'm glad they went with the ACUs this time cause I've only seen a few pix of soldiers wearing Multicam in the future force warrior program or whatever it's called. I also agree with you on the Strykers and what-not. I've seen mostly Bradleys and Humvees in the videos I've seen of units such as yours. Another thing I agree with you on(if not all of it) is the weapons that GRIN chose for this game. Ever since I saw videos on the HK 416, I've been suggesting that it be put in games and that was one of the guns GRIN added. And the MR-C I haven't seen much of but like you said it's probably a gun that GRIN thought would be cool to put in game. I know that just because people like me aren't in the military that we should keep our mouthes shut but there are some issues like this where it's best(atleast IMO) to leave it up to the military guys. And correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Predator SRAW also just being used by the USMC? That's what they made it sound like in the video I saw on it. Anyways, I think Eric's post was the best by far in this thread and I just hope it doesn't get moved down to the real world military forums for getting a little off topic.

I heard Red Storm was gonna make the new one.

I heard Red Storm was being brought back as well.

No offense to the GRiN crew... just because RSE might be coming back does NOT mean I'll be automatically buying it, either. I think Ubi hosed you in most cases and left you out in the wind to take the heat.

I'm skeptical on the future of GR on PC these days... I will be spending more and more time on Black Foot Studio's forums going forward, as I am very impressed with what they are working on for next year.

Until then I'm hoping the mod crew around here can really bring some life to GRAW2... if I can't find some good content soon (remember, I'm an SP guy) GRAW's getting uninstalled and declared shelf-ware.

Bro I've got nine years active duty service in the Army, so I think you need to just be careful okay? I was giving you some friendly advice from somebody who's got the experience and knowledge to say what I can, and cannot. So just realize that nobody's impressed yet, and you should work harder on what you say, have a good one bro ;)

I remember when the Strykers replaced us in Mosul in early '04. Those guys were the cockiest SOBs I've ever seen. Made their own perimeter WITHIN our perimeter just to keep 101st guys from interacting. I guess they, with their fancy equipment, didn't want us giving them advice on how to handle the place, little did they know we had the most successful region at the time. After all hell broke loose for a while, I was able to talk to many of them and they were cool. (I don't speak for ALL of them of course, just the many that I saw)

Yeah I remember when 3rd ID was replacing us, and I was just interested in a particular configuration of one infantryman on his laser. And he was like "this is a laser" and I was like "no really? I never would have guessed!" But since he outranked me, I just said "roger" :)

Goes to show you that, just because the equipment is in your hand or mounted on your weapon, doesn't mean that you will know how to use it or more importantly when to and when NOT to use it.

I remember when my squad was on a night time patrol once, and we had solid info that a few NVGs were taken about 3 days prior from a hummer that was ambushed about 2 clicks away. Some of the pvts (and rightfully so) were messing around with the NVGs we had and the IR lasers. They gave our position away and fire started raining down on us.

They didnt need to be using the lasers, that ended up getting one of themselves shot in the leg. Bad day for us all. BTW, we "ended" 9 hajis that night. HOOAH!

If any of you are getting ready to go over: you need to shut your mouths and listen to those that have been there. if you do this... you might live to come back. Hajis are sneaky bas-tards.

(I had to go back thru this post and re-word it when i took out all the foul language. it not so much a good story but a good point now.)

This thread has taken another turn now, but I will refrain boring you with stories about being shelled in Bosnia. On topic, it is true that there is some degree of fantasy in GRAW2. But we don't know much about the future, so there isn’t anything alternate with GRAW2 yet as the setting is in the future. As Aristoteles said (quoted freely): "The only sure thing we know about the future is that something unexpected will happen". There isn’t anything unrealistic with US-elite soldiers using H&K weapons in the future, even if it happens to be a European brand. Heck IIRC ranger units (correct?) still use Carl-Gustav RCL, and the AT-4 is spread through all forces, both Swedish weapons (a country which on the paper isn't a NATO.-member).

I am all for anything in GRAW2 or GRAW3 for that matter which don’t seriously disturbs my suspension of belief (Rail guns anyone).
