Sleepdoc-iBeta
I know that it is rare that great IP's ever go open source for any reason. But we do see games do it from time to time. Especailly when the graphics engine has no hope of being used again. I know there wil be a lot of speculation on this questions WRT to what UBI would likely NEVER allow. But I sure would love to hear what someone from GRiN actually thinks on this issue? Could you imagine how much new life the modcommunity would breath into GRAW1 or 2 one day if it ever went open source? Even if it went open source 2 years from now, I think it would lead to some great stuff.... Cheers. Here's to dreaming outloud.
GHOST_Sup
My vote goes to UBI would never allow it. They aren't exactly the most consumer friendly business out there.
viiiper
Next joke please open source & Ubi are two words not to be used in the same sentence.
GRIN_Wolfsong
I think this is a topic for someone higher up the food chain then me.
KRP 56
Can't see that happening. Heck! I can't even see it ever happening with GR.
ematsui
This isnt something to be pinned on Ubi, 95 percent of the developers wouldnt ever go open source
Creatch
Dream on. We begged for the same thing for Ghost Recon for years. Even had a huge petition signed by about 80+% of the community and got nothing. And that game whos engine could not be used for anything else is almost 7 yrs old and still a nojoy. UBI don't give anything away. Edited August 13, 2007 by Creatch
Brainman2k
one big question remains: why would/should they? Edited August 13, 2007 by Brainman2k
SnowFella
Is "When pics can fly" a suitable answer? I seriously doubt either UBI or GRIN would allow it to ever happen, mostly so GRIN I suspect as the Diesel engine is their baby and has nothing to do with UBI. Plus they have used this engine for a long time now, remember Bandits: Phoenix Rising? It's running an earlier version of the diesel engine, something as time consuming to make as a game engine isn't something you just discard willynilly. I suspect GRIN intends to use this one in one shape or another for a long time to come.
